I have always loved this film:

With THE DARK on DVD and now SCARED TO DEATH, there is one more film needed to complete my "perfect Trilogy" and that's Greydon Clark's WITHOUT WARNING. Someday soon, I hope.

It's been out on R1 DVD for couple of years, but with a full frame transfer.

I'm surprised RetroMedia is giving it such a stellar release!

I had never heard of this guy until I watched his Masters of Horror yesterday. I didn't know he did The Dark.

He didn't - but for me, THE DARK and WITHOUT WARNING share a similar appeal to SCARED TO DEATH. They make a perfect triple-feature.
I enjoyed Malone's CREATURE as well. That's another one I'd like to see released :)

Well if this is anything like The Dark, it's definitely worth picking up! I generally love old school pre-CGI creature features. I also look forward to Without Warning making it to dvd.

Reassuring to see Retromedia give this the special treatment. Their latest dvd (Planet of Dinosaurs) has a positive review and boasts some nice supplemental materials. Hoping that Scared to Death will be another quality release from Retromedia.

CREATURE is on several public domain dvd label and packs. I have it on two dvd labels already.

Great news! I haven't seen this film in forever so I'll be picking this up when available.

I just wish there was a good widescreen release though!

Oddly,I tend to prefer Malone's old low budgeters to his bigger flicks of recent vintage, they just seem pacier and more fun.A widescreen CREATURE would be a welcome release.

Good, now I can get rid of my terrible Pegasus PAL DVD. I too would love a proper, remastered widescreen release of Creature. I get that a lot of companies are scared to touch public domain titles because the majority of people will still just buy the cheap disc, while passing up the more expensive remastered copy, but that film deserves better treatment, damn it!

You may want to keep your SCARED TO DEATH full screen public domain, PAL import ect. DVD for ONE REASON: "Scared to Death" was filmed in 16mm and blown up to 35mm for drive-in projection (which, granted was VERY dark at our drive-in).
You can have one without picture missing and one that was intended to be shown at the cinema...I mean DRIVE-IN ;). Oh, who knows...we'll see about that later - I'm just excited about this release. :)

The new DVD has a pretty good 16x9 transfer. The film was shot in 16mm according to Malone (and as wago70 stated), so there is a bit of grain and artifacts. I didn't really notice any framing issues, it looks fine in widescreen. It's still 100% better than the old "Substance" bootleg DVD, and the film also runs about 5 minutes longer. I'm not sure if the old disc was cut, or sourced from PAL or what...but 5 minutes sounds like it was cut, though for what reason I haven't a clue. I'll have to try and compare them sometime.

The Interview with William Malone is quite entertaining and runs about 20 minutes. Also included is the original theatrical trailer.
