Off topic, but I watched the Dekanalog VS partner label release for the Taiwanese video game horror film adaptation for Detention yesterday, which was May 19th, and the film takes place during and is about the trauma caused during the White Terror period, which is when the country was under strict military government martial law. And out of sheer coincidence the actual White Terror period started on May 19th, 1947, which is when that martial law first took effect in the country.
This isn't the first "date coincidence" I've had while watching a movie as well. Just about a decade ago I was watching a Russ Meyer flick, and the movie opened with a credit that stated "A September 19 Production" and lo-and-behold the exact date I was watching the movie? September 19th!
It appears that Thriller is such a demanded title that all 10,000 copies of the limited box are already sold out. Now they are offering a 4K or Blu-ray standard edition which includes a slipcover.
Yup - it sold out in 20 hours. At 12:01 AM Friday there was “over 1000 copies in stock”. When I woke up it was down 885 copies which slowly dwindled to 0 by 8 PM last night. Glad I grabbed one.
They also mention some copies will be available at Diabolik and Grindhouse Video soon.
Pretty insane how fast that sold. I expected it to sell well, but not nearly that fast. I'm a subscriber, so it automatically comes with my monthly subscription... but still I think this has got to be their fastest selling title ever?
Yeah I spoke to someone at The Archive Thursday night, and they said it would definitely sell out quickly so don't snooze on it if you want it. That's a lot of copies fast for sure.
No wonder Synapse rushed out their half-assed Blu-ray edition so fast. LOL, I wonder how many they sold? I'll bet it was quite a few as well.
That’s some weird stuff Synapse did. Trying to cash in essentially before Vinegar Syndrome. Did I read it correctly where their Blu release is just an upscaled DVD?
Well, it used Synapse's ancient DVD-era "master" from years prior, but it was actual HD on their Blu-ray... it just wasn't any newer HD scan or anything. Or at least that's the way I've heard about it, that one was an easy pass knowing this VS release was coming soon.
