Alien Private Eye looks like the kind of obscure weirdness we've come to expect from Vinegar Syndrome, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit underwhelmed by the number of hi-def double-dips we've been getting from March through May. Already have FleshEater on blu-ray, and I do like it, but I doubt I'll watch the new disc until closer to Halloween. Death Wish II is no Death Wish 3.
I wondered if it would be a slip protector, but those are only $2. Then again, if there's no S&H, maybe that just includes postage. OK... So, out of curiosity I checked on WNUF [once down to 230] and it is now up to 694! They just pulled about 500 WNUF's out of their asses! What. The. Fuck. I would have made an entirely different calculation, maybe even ordering Miami Connection instead. Numbers can go up and down a bit, but that's a total bait and switch when we're talking limited edition that can sell out in a heart beat.
They are going a bit mad with the 4K stuff, Flesh Eater really! I'm starting to wish they would do separate UHD and Blu Ray releases! Some titles I just don't think are really gonna benefit from the format, Flesh Eater being a prime example.
I noticed that happen recently with another partner release. I don't recall the title now... but it was down to about 500, then jumped up close to 800 remaining. I suppose it could be that some of the partners had some of the copies themselves, and then just shipped them back to VS when they weren't selling that well themselves? Flesh Eater does seem like an odd title to do a 4K release for. It's had DVD and Blu-ray releases before, and I can't recall it ever being all that popular of a title.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Death Wish II that Shout didn't do already. And not gonna lie. Stiff Competition. Probably one of the rare adult tittle I would be willing to buy. Only two copies I have of that are in avi & mp4 format. One of them the audio is terrible. So I'm definitely in for that movie. 4K vs my "below average" versions. Hell yeah.

Why does X-Ray always have to be paired with Schizoid? That's the reason why I never picked up the Shout Factory disc, and now here it is again with Vinegar Syndrome. I don't get it. I WON'T get it, especially not for $40 and including a movie that I don't even like.
The connection is Cannon Films, but I don't really get it either. It'd make a better pairing with New Year's Evil, if anything. Hard Rock Zombies and Slaughterhouse Rock doesn't make sense either.
Shout Factory's release seems somewhat dull and milky by comparison. The film grain is much more finely resolved on the VS release, which... 4K scan of the OCN vs. HD-master, probably from an IP... should be expected. It might not seem like a major improvement on smaller monitors or laptops, but that Shout! release probably won't hold up well, at all, on a larger setup.
The UHD is a big upgrade. Much sharper and better colors. The Shout disc also suffers from compression artifacts.

Hard Rock Zombies and Slaughterhouse Rock doesn't make sense either.[/QUOTE] Except for the undead 80s rock bands.

A heads up: For those that ordered the Saturn's Core Blu-ray release of Red Spirit Lake/We Await, I just got an email notification that a replacement disc has been shipped. Didn't realize there was an issue (although I haven't even cracked my seal yet), but from a quick search for the issue on the original disc it appears that the commentary track for RSL was accidentally doubled-up also over We Await, so the fixed disc will have the correct We Await audio commentary.
