It's licensed from Warner, so they most likely just denied them access to a new scan as they've done before. At least it's an AVC encode and properly framed this time around... unlike the old Blu-ray.
Got my replacement discs for the F13th set for part 1 & 8 which were scratched in my set. The scratches were not too bad but why not get a free replacement especially for the cost of this set. Now we just need the three discs that had errors and I'll be a happy camper
I think Shout is doing a good job of taking care of issues that have come up - kudos to them and the whole F13th package is great. I watched part 3 in 3D last night and it was fun - there was some ghosting I noticed but it was acceptable. Also watched the long lost cut gore scenes from part 2 - it was cool to see what was supposed to be in the movie and how much different those scenes would have looked. I am very happy with my purchase so far.
I've read there are bad "reverb" audio issues (on both tracks) with the new Pumpinhead Steelbook, which were not present on the old release. Dialogue, etc. is coming through the rear speakers. I haven't watched mine yet, but may just wait to see first if there's going to be a replacement on that too.
Maybe Shout should lower their prices if they just want to keep releasing movies with issues. It's great that they seem to fix them all the times they come up, but they come up frequently. Surely this costs them more money than just hiring some competent people for QC.
Totally agree. Look at arrow for example has there ever been a problem with one of their releases resulting in a replacement program? I can't think of one.
Arrow have had some replacement discs on older releases: The Beyond The Big Knife Black Angel House by the Cemetery Shivers Stormy Monday Zombie Flesh Eaters The Card Player (DVD) Martin (DVD) ...but still far less than Shout, and nothing really recent that I can think of.
They aren't without issues too though. I think The Beyond had a black and white intro. I think Zombie Flesh Eaters had an issue during the opening they might have replaced. Their first release of Cat O Nine Tails was awful. House and Hellraiser 3 are framed wrong. I think I heard Creepshow 2 might have had the same issue. They didn't do replacement programs for most of those either. Generally though I agree that Arrow have much better QC these days. I'm still happy that Shout at the very least is making things right when these issues are brought up. It just sucks it happens pretty often and on bigger name titles when they're charging pretty high amounts.
Another review (with screenshots) for The Brides of Dracula: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Brides-of-Dracula-Blu-ray/274465/#Review
Picked up Motel Hell Steel book at my local record store today and the transfer is way better than the combo pack. Great release all around.
Curious, what was the issue with this release? I've got it and don't remember anything wrong with the discs - and I can't find any info on a replacement program for it or any issues...
My Shout Factory order arrived today in a huge box. It was very well packed. The Fed Ex guy left it sitting on my porch and didn't even ring the doorbell. I was home at the time.
Yes, I was sent an email with tracking information. My order actually showed up one day early. On a side note I did order two more items a day or two after my first order and I have not received ship notification for that. I'm sure Shout is dealing with several thousand orders which would be quite time consuming.
Thanks, russweiss. Yeah, I'm sure they're bombarded with orders plus tons of emails about he Friday the 13th box. I'm not worried; they always ship eventually.
Screen comparisons are up for Pumkinhead: https://caps-a-holic.com/c_list.php?c=5684 Pretty solid improvement over the old Blu-ray.
