Wow. I'm just finishing watching Hell Night, and yeah, it really is a disappointing transfer. I mean it certainly looks better than the dvd. But it's one of those releases where you forget that you're watching it in HD. And the print damage is really prevalent, and particularly noticeable given how dark the movie is. I don't feel like I got anything new out of watching it again. I think a big part of the disappointment comes from the long process of actually getting this released. It was rumoured, then denied, then confirmed, then delayed. After all the hype and discussion and the way Scream seemed to be treating it as a big deal, I think most people were expecting something pretty special. And this is really anything but. I mean Hell Night has never been a personal favorite, but even I was pretty excited to finally get it on Blu after all the lead up. Maybe this is the clearest and most film like this movie will ever look? I don't know. But I don't think anybody can say that Scream did the best they could, considering all the print damage that has been left untouched. I mean at the very least they could have removed tons of white scratches and flecks in the darker scenes.
