It's already been out awhile. You can find the DVD for $5.50 in Wal-Mart's bargain bin.

Well, that A.B. U.K. double feature dvd may be worth getting if it's at a decent price with a couple of decent extras.

Last time Unnamable was given 18-certificate in England it was cut 37 seconds.

    This was in 1992.

I'd say BBFC would pass this one uncut these days, but since AB UK has nasty habit releasing films in BBFC-cut form from time to time I'm not going to buy this till I know the running time.

It will be uncut for part 1 at least, from AB UK boards:

Part 1 has been passed uncut - all previous cuts waived.

Submitted run time 01:27:50:14 | Approved run time is 01:27:50:14

Just a quick note that the release date of the set has apparently been pushed back to November 22nd according to the Amazon UK site.

So, did anyone else buy the new double disc set from Anchor Bay UK?

It's a pretty nice set, except for a few small things. The movies aren't in widescreen, but I'm not sure they were meant to be. The transfers look pretty decent anyways. The only real flaw is that the 2nd disc has the same manufacturing problem as the 1st run of the UK Hellraiser boxsets....a misaligned label making the play noisy as hell! It eventually quiets down after you start playing the movie, fortunately.

Here's the specs for the set:

    The Unnamable:

    Fullscreen (4:3) Transfer
    Dolby Stereo 2.0
    Optional Dolby 5.1
    Optional DTS
Optional English subtitles for the hard of hearing
    Theatrical Trailer
    Original house sketches and artwork
    Film Notes
    Biographies
    Stills gallery

    The Unnamable Returns:

    Fullscreen (4:3) Transfer
    Dolby Stereo 2.0
    Optional Dolby 5.1
    Optional DTS
Audio Commentary with Director Jean-Paul Ouellette
Optional English subtitles for the hard of hearing
Making Of featurette (30 minutes long, a younger Julie Strain featured heavily!)
    Promo Reel
    Theatrical Trailer
    Film Notes
    Biographies
    Cast pictures
    Stills gallery

Sounds nice but damn, why no anamorphic widescreen? Not sure if I pick these up now.

I'm wondering this as well. I'd assume that at least the first film played in some theaters. They do have DTS sound on both however...hmm. It's perplexing.

I guess it's time to enquire about this on the AB UK forum! :eek2:

Just in case anyone is still wondering about the Fullscreen ratios of The Unnamable and it's sequel...that is the intended aspect ratio of both films, according to the director himself, and AB UK. We won't be seeing any widescreen versions.

  19. Lions Gate over here in the US should do SE dvds of both Unnamable flicks, instead of bare bones shit. Or some company over here should, anyway.

I recently bought the Anchor Bay set. I really enjoyed the unnamable, but the sequel was not that great :)
