Hide your leotards -- Raro Video are bringing Umberto Lenzi's NIGHTMARE CITY (1980) to blu! News reporter Hugo Stiglitz is present on the tarmac for a military plane's emergency landing. Expecting to meet a scientist, he's instead greeted by a hull full of radiated maniacs who quickly spread out to paint the town red -- including a hospital invasion (where one doctor, mid-surgery, defends himself by flinging his scalpel like a throwing dagger as if he's been practicing for years) and a broadcast interruption of a televised aerobicize show! Eyes are poked, boobs are bit, throats are slashed, everyone looks like they have oatmeal on their face and it all ends on a rollercoaster. An absolutely lunatic viewing experience, this is a required purchase for Eurotrash fanatics. Promising a new HD transfer from the negative, Raro are also including some trailers and an interview with the director. Who would've thought *this* would be the first Lenzi to hit blu?

I see they used a combination of the French and Italian theatrical posters for the blu cover art.

Holy shit, I thought this wasn't being released till December, so I was pretty surprised to see this sitting in my mailbox today!

Awesome! Watching it now....totally forgot how bonkers this flick is. The transfer looks pretty good too...not the most detail in the world, but the colors are nice.

You never got a shipping notification? I ordered a copy after hearing that some people have begun receiving their orders. I'm just wondering if Raro is shipping these out based on when people preordered. Hope to receive my copy soon.

    Another review: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/nightmarecitybluray.php

"The only way to describe the 2.35:1/1080p VC-1 encoded transfer is mediocre."

Yeah, I think I'll wait and see what Arrow do with it. This is hardly one that I care enough to spend $20+ on if it's hardly any upgrade over the old DVD.

I'm in the same boat. I love the movie, but these reviews have definitely made me wait to see what Arrow comes up with before making any decisions.

I´ll wait for the Arrow as well.

Raro sure has a hard-on for using DNR. I stopped buying their BD´s since they are so damn muddy, they almost looks like upscales, thanks to the blur.
But I guess they get their transfers from LVR, which is always filled with heavy scanner/video noise, that forces them to DNR the shit out of the transfers to get rid of it.

NIGHTMARE CITY is on Netflix streaming and it looks good. Interesting is that it's in Italian with English subtitles. Some of the camp factor for me is gone but the film is fun ride. World War Z 1980. :)

Amazon is down to $16.97 on this Blu. I'm taking the plunge. Arrow's release will probably be Region 2 locked, and I don't really know how much better they can make this flick look.
