I have both the Scream Factory and Arrow BD's on order. I think I'm gonna go with the Arrow. Better art and more extras. But the Tobe Hooper approved transfer is interesting on the SF release. Ultimately it's down to the transfer.

I believe both editions will have the same audio commentaries, so my bet is that the transfers will be the same.

Arrow is gonna have a spectacular documentary on their disc that looks VERY promising:

"- Cannon Fodder: The Making of Lifeforce - An epic UK-exclusive look at the genesis, production and release of Lifeforce featuring interviews with Hooper, producer Michael J. Kagan, editor John Grover, actors Aubrey Morris and Nicholas Ball, makeup artist Sandra Exelby, screenwriter Michael Armstrong, sound designer Vernon Messenger, artistic designers Tom Adams and Douglas Smith and effects artist John Schoonraad."

So if you have the ability to playback region B and are interested in even more extras, the Arrow disc might be the one to get.

Does anyone remember the Making Of Lifeforce that was on HBO in 1985?

meh. i'm most interested in the two commentary tracks, which are duplicated across both releases. a lot of the interviewed cast and crew are pretty similar as well, leading me to think that a lot of the relevant material will probably be covered on both releases, just with possibly different structure and arrangement. i may be wrong, but that remains to be seen. the Arrow release may be an improvement in the extras department, but it's also region B, which means I can only play it on one of my 3 BD players, which is an inconvenience. there are more than enough extras on the Scream release to suit me, i expect.

Regarding the Shout edition, I believe the interviews will be covered on the following Arrow extra, but note that Arrow says "and more" meaning that more participants will be giving their insight:
-New Cast & Crew Retrospective with star Steve Railsback, Hooper, Mathilda May and more!

On the other announced extra, we wil have the said long making off:
-Cannon Fodder: The Making of Lifeforce - An epic UK-exclusive look at the genesis, production and release of Lifeforce featuring interviews with Hooper, producer Michael J. Kagan, editor John Grover, actors Aubrey Morris and Nicholas Ball, makeup artist Sandra Exelby, screenwriter Michael Armstrong, sound designer Vernon Messenger, artistic designers Tom Adams and Douglas Smith and effects artist John Schoonraad.

If Shout call this making of "epic", I believe it will be huge and very detailed.

If the unannounced extras are something to be considered, I will bet a replay of the vintage making of and some more interviews.

Is it the same one that's on the laserdisc with the making of Invaders From Mars?

I've tried watching Lifeforce a couple of times. It really seems to bog down about an hour or so in, and creeps to the finale.

The transfers for both the theatrical and director's cut in R1 and R2 are supposed to be different?

As the commentary is the same, I´ll bet both transfers will be struck from the same master. If that would be the case, I believe the main difference will be on the encoding of each transfer.

Arrow is slowly growing in providing great transfers so, if your question is regarding which edition to buy, I would wait until September for the first reviews to pop up regarding Arrow´s edition.

Has anyone seen NEMO? That was a Princess Bride like movie that starred Harvey Keitel. It was one of Mathilda Mays early roles, a few months before LIFEFORCE!

I believe it's been put out on dvd before. Is it related to the Nemo books about the kid who adventures into fantasy lands? I loved that NES game!

Lots of talk about The Howling, not so much about Lifeforce.
Anyone seen it yet? Any thoughts?
The distribution has been very spotty in Canada, I finally relented and ordered it online.

I have the Arrow steelbook preordered. I cannot wait to get this in September. I'm a sucker for extras which is why I went with the Arrow blu. Hopefully the transfer will be equal to Shout's (or even better!).

Wait, I thought the Shout! release only had the DC of the film? Isn't that why people were excited about the Arrow release?
