Billy Bob Thornton will star as Freddy Krueger in a new Nightmare On Elm Street movie.

The 53-year-old actor will take on the chilling role in a remake of the 1984 original.

Robert Englund, who played the part in eight films, revealed that Thornton will star in the horror films and is an "excellent choice" for the role.

He adds, "A big budget should mean the film will look a lot better than some of the old movies."

"Are you talkin' bout my gear? My FUCK STICK?"

    translated into:

"Are you talkin' bout my scissor fingers? My FUCK BLADES?"

    Could be interesting.

If Robert is stating this, take it with a grain of salt. Besides, wasn't the idea of replacing Robert was to find someone younger to sustain a new franchise?

Exactly, it really doesn't make too much sense. Englund isn't exactly that much older than Thornton is in the first place. :eek2:

This really confirms that the new NOES will concentrate on Krueger's back story. Billy Bob will be Billy Bob for most of the film, no doubt.

How many NOES parts are they going to remake?...this sounds like a bad idea
We should open voting for the next remake....I vote for Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure
starring Corey Haim and Corey Feldman.

I suppose he (BBT) wasnt too bad a choice. I would have liked to see Andrew Divoff from Wishmaster play the part though. That's one creepy dude.JMO

I just don't see this working. It's not going to be Freddy Krueger, it's going to be Billy Bob Thornton with knife-fingers. Unless he can pull a Heath Ledger and completely immerse himself into the character to the point where he's unrecognizable, I think this would just end up being another vehicle for Billy Bob's usual shtick. I say they get an unknown. Someone younger too.

Doesn't make any sense, Englund was 37 when NOES was released. Thornton is only 8 years younger than Englund right now. It's simply studios wanting to rebrand the franchise.

Well to Billy Bobs credit he actually did pull this off in Slingblade, but this of course isnt that type of film so I dont know that he could or would put that kinda effort into this role

This is laughable:lol:. It's bad enough that another tired remade retread will make it to a theatrical release, but I can't even imagine Billy Bob Thornton in this role.

What a sad state mainstream Hollywood is in!!!
