The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) Directed by Martin Scorsese 7/10 This film is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort as taken from his autobiography. From his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. It has the same narrative structure as Goodfellas and Casino but unlike those films this one feels too long and as if the same story could have been told in 2 hours rather than 3 (which was edited down from 4 already). Perhaps Scorsese really wanted to get every dirty little story from the book into the movie but I think the excesses in the characters lives could have been told without the excess of screen time. Despite this it is still pretty entertaining, well made and excellent performances, in particular by Jonah Hill (who I hope gets nominated) and Leonardo Dicaprio.
