The vast majority of my friends worked on this film. I, unfortunately, was on something else at the time. He funded this all with his own money, so that should answer the question of how he was able to make it. I'm most excited to see the work of DP Maryse Alberti, who's an amazing cinematographer.

Just got back. A very enjoyable film. Even though it's PG-13, it's far edgier than anything Night's done previously. The much talked about comedy comes from an organic place, the two very likeable adolescent protagonists. It's neither mugging for the camera or absurdist. Though the film does falter with Night's insistence on having an emotional core, it's ultimately an entertaining and satisfactory thriller.

The reviews have been pretty positive - although Goodnight Mommy seems to be getting a better buzz

I think Goodnight Mommy is just going to be overhyped like its trailer was. It start off well but I hated the direction it took. I'm not big on torture porn.

Thought it was great. They could of done without the found footage angle and the side plots were a bit pointless. The tacked on ending also should of been chopped. Saying that it had an original story and some nice use of suspense. Looks like after over a decade of misses this director has finally made a good film again.

    Agreed.
My friends and I believed it should have ended when the camera fell to the ground as the police arrived.

My son been wanting me to join him to watch this one, but since it is M. Night Shyamalan.... I am very hesitant, but not sure if I want to pay over $20 for my son and I to see this one.

Anyone here think its worth a blind buy on a bluray / dvd release? If so, I think I can wait till then or just rent it instead

So far I've only heard fairly positive reviews for this so I'd say see it with your son if he wants to see it :)

Finally saw this yesterday. I thought it was average. It didn't knock my socks off. Saw it with two other people and they enjoyed it much more than I did. It's not M. Night's worst film - I reserve that place for Unbreakable - but I would give it a 6/10.

Wow, of all the films he's made Unbreakable is what you call his worst? That's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that. You obviously haven't seen shit like After Earth and The Last Air Bender then. Unbreakable is a masterpiece compared to those.

You are correct. I haven't seen After Earth or the Last Air Bender. I am basing my opinion on only those that I've seen. Just not a fan of that film. I would still consider The Sixth Sense as his very best, followed by Signs.

The other one I really thought was fucking stupid was The Village.

I don't think I've even seen all of Unbreakable but from what I had seen many years ago I was quite interested in the story. Even The Village which I didn't like much due to it turning out very different from the monster movie I was expecting isn't a terrible film.
After Earth and The Last Air Bender are terrible films though. You need to see those to understand what a truly shit M. Night Shyamalan film looks like.

Literally just finished watching it and thought it was really good. I was weirded out for most of it and thought the reveal at the end was very effective. Oh and it's filmed really nice for a found footage type of film :)

Solid campy fun. Hilarious premise that eventually plays out so well that legitimate dread crept in--thanks a lot to the two young leads, but I was impressed with the portrayal of the grandparents. There's something at work there--a fear of the elderly--that could be explored further in horror, I think. The actor who played the mother pretty much sucked the believability out of every scene and the ending was too long, but the majority of the film was surprisingly good.
