I got out my projector and watched this with the kids tonight. They have never seen this before (it's probably been about 15 years since I last watched it) and they absolutely loved it. The movie still holds up very well. They don't make films like this anymore.
I watched this recently for the first time since I was a kid. A great movie from start to finish, and I was especially surprised at all of the non-PC scenes with the kids. One of the best DVD releases of the year.
Since nobody replied... By the way, little thing I noticed... Am I crazy or is the music in the beginning of the trailer for Monster Squad the same music from Fright Night??
I thought the same thing. I really enjoyed watching this. BTW, the music was terrible, but added to the charm.
I thought the very same thing when I watched it. That of course does not mean we aren't both crazy. I really enjoyed watching it again. It's a great movie with a great dvd. It's nice to wait so long and get a DVD worthy of the movie for a change.
I also hadnt watched in many years and still found it great. I wish movies still used the music montage like in this and revenge of the nerds etc....
This is one of those films I never saw as a kid. I remember not being interested in it at because it looked "childish". I did like "Night of the Creeps" (only saw it recently) but I'm curious about the cult fever that "The Monster Squad" seems to have inspired. I haven't seen any copies for sale, but I might pick it up if I ever do.
did you get a reply back from lions gate? i tried e-mailing them but it wouldn't go through. but if they are sending you one, i will def. keep trying, from another computer or e-mail or something.
Anybody from Canada who's DVD was missing the insert e-mail Lionsgate about getting another one? I have tried several times and none of my e-mails will go through, so just wondering if anyone ended up getting a replacement and if it's worth it?
There's a store around here that sells everything from DVD's to video games. They had a bunch of Monster Squad DVDs sealed in the package for $7, plus it was buy 2 get one free. Needless to say all my friends own copies on Monster Squad now. I'm guessing they must have fallen off a truck or something.
I watched this the other night for the first time in about 12 years!!! And it still holds up, in fact i was almost tearing up by the end when Frankenstein went through the portal.... WTF is happening to me??
Van Helsing is awesome when he gives that maniacal, Heston-esque thumbs-up at the end as he's been sucked into some black hole, Elysian field of vampire killing. It's the universal hand gesture.
I don't know if you guys know about this, but I think Intrada released the soundtrack album to coincide with the DVD release. Broughton's score kicks ass, so if you love the music, you can order it at Intrada's official website.
