Monroeville Mall is living up to it's reputation sense 1978.

    The water must be tainted...

I always carry around a panzerfaust for protection myself.

I live in Pittsburgh and unfortunately this is not surprising. The surrounding neighborhoods near the mall have been getting more and more crime ridden over the years with one neighborhood having a higher crime rate than Compton.

There actually used to be a police station inside the mall but it had to be closed due to lack of funding. It actually took up a storefront much like the gun shop in the movie (which was actually filmed off site).

A once very charming mall has now turned into a demilitarized war-zone.

I live north of Pittsburgh and I couldn't agree more. Monroeville Mall and Century 3 near Pittsburgh are horrible. A ton of empty storefronts. Monroeville Mall was outstanding in the 1970's. I think it was the 3rd or 4th largest in the U.S. when they filmed Dawn there.

Yet another huge riot / fight / shooting at Monroeville Mall. This is the third major incident since December.

Sad. I went there a few years ago while the JC Penny was still in it's original location. Glad I got to see the Dawn Of The Dead mall before all this crap started.

Many of the malls near the US/Canadian border are showing incredible signs of decline and urban decay also. The mall in Massena, NY is just in terrible shape as evidenced by the reviews on tripadvisor. The surrounding area seems sketchy too now.
