But he needs that outfit to showcase his perfect body! I've always liked Last House on the Left and I Spit on Your Grave, but for some reason, I was never as thrilled by House on the Edge of the Park. I couldn't quite figure out why, because this is Deodato doing an exploitive revenge flick - should be right up my alley. And HotEotP is decidedly unpleasant, so what's it lacking that the other two have? LHotL has a profound sense of sadness to it. It also really kicks into gear for the revenge act. ISoYG has a thrilling chase scene, and without getting into the morality of revenge, the revenge scenes are extremely satisfying. HotEotP, despite the presence of the physically and sexually menacing Hess, kinda feels like a standstill. It's perhaps also the one where I feel the least sympathy for the protagonists. Towards the end, they let a totally innocent person - Cindy who lives next door - get caught up in their revenge plot. Cindy had no stake in any of it. She just popped by to have a good time and is left physically and emotionally scarred. I get that it's a point of the movie, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. Now, will I buying it? It is an important exploitation film, but perhaps not one with a lot of replay value for me.
