This is not only the best werewolf film ever.... But the best movie ever! it has it all sex, violence, gore, comedy and scares. A definate 10.
I gave it a 9. I actually prefer The Howling, but besides that this is the best werewolf film ever made.
i gave it a 10. i love this movie! i can't think of a single thing about it that i didn't like. great mix of horror (the effects are still pretty damn cool), humour (porno theatre...one of the funniest scenes in a movie ever!), nudity, and it's scary at times too (stay off the moors...). it's so much better than alot of supposedly scary movies that come out today with all that cgi garbage...shiny monsters aren't scary!
8.5 The atmosphere and music are great. Old fashioned but great. Most of the characters are interesting. The wolf looks good. It's usually funny. It's mostly classy but very progressive. I have to say I really respect that it finally shifted the balance of nudity so that it showed more male nudity than female. I'm not sure that had ever been done before this movie. And since John Landis likes to shoot so many scenes at strip clubs and of topless women and everything, I thought it was very generous of him to give a little something to certain female and certain male viewers who were tired of the cliche. I tire of that cliche at times. The beginning takes awhile to get going, though. And a lot of the dialogue is very juvenile. Which I didn't mind when I was younger. But now I cringe at it. But talk about a movie that knows how to make the viewer uncomfortable. If that's a good thing, though I don't traditionally like it, the scene in that bar with everyone staring at David and Jack strangely always unnerves me.
9 Id say the first 20 minutes and the last 20 minutes of An American Werewolf in London are nearly flawless. Really draws the viewer in. Some middle parts of the film drag a bit. The hospital scences, for example. Still, its without a doubt,IMHO anyway, far and away the best werewolf movie of them all.
Gave this a 3 by mistake as I thought it was for the blu ray picture quality! This film gets top marks from me: 10 One of my all time favourites.
You boys are not alone, just to be a bit playful & off-topic. I'm MUCH more into the legendary dark haired ladies, just to support my fellow Brunettes, then I am a Blonde more then half the time. However, don't leave out those obscure (natural of course) Redheads, as rare as they are these days. But yeah, give me a Dita Von Teese or a young Jennifer Connelly any ol' day of the week reguardless over a generic Blonde. Also I voted 9.5 as I feel it's more of less a seminal classic of the genre, and one of only 4 Werewolf movies I truely love. It's well worth owning and hasn't dated much, and is a fine horror/comedy and a wonderful expert example of it, and again, I find no real flaws or too many dated things about it that can't just be simply labeled Period in a sense. So that's my vote. Can't wait to order the Blu-Ray of it.
First of all the mixture of humor and horror is perfect. Landis finds a tone, a balance that none has surpassed since. Even himself. Than there's the wonderful use of music during the transormation scene which is a stroke of genius. The scene is classic and the choice to film it in full light it a great touch - the impact is immense. I just find the ending a bit abrupt. The poor werewolf gets gunned down too fast for me. 9.5 that is...
I give it a 9.5 because it's close to perfect but then again I don't know what makes a perfect movie so this might be a 10.
