I hate it when companies cut deals like this with companies that already have an economic advantage. Best Buy historically has never given a shit about their exclusive releases. How many of us have shown up on day 1 and found the employees utterly obvious to the titles? Of course, with Best Buy that probably goes for every product in the store... but still. At least with a place like Bull Moose it would get a prominent place on the floor rather than forgotten about in the back room.
It's extremely frustrating and quite honestly makes little sense. Why would you limit the market on your product? One that you clearly put a lot of money and effort into. This isn't some cheap-looking bargain bin set, this is a definitive collector's edition type box set. You'd think they'd wanna make back their money as easily as they could by opening it up to different retailers. And I fucking hate those Best Buy exclusives, because they're exclusive to Best Buy stores in the US. You can't find them at a Canadian Best Buy. ~Matt
I guess those Target orders were cancelled then. I remember back in January they had this set for pre order for like $45.
Watched the entire boxset over the past few days. I watched the first 4 films in anticipation of Ravager back in October and the transfers on the old dvds of 1, 3 and 4 looked so horribly dated I was praying for this boxset sooner than later. WellGo USA delivered big time. The new transfers on 1,3 and 4 look fantastic (especially 1) and the new and old extras are fantastic. I'm repeating myself but still I highly recommend this for fans.
Five Reasons You Need Arrow's UK Phantasm Set (besides the sphere) So, did anyone else decide to double dip and buy the Arrow set? I should have it on Wednesday from Amazon UK. Yeah, it's expensive to buy it also, blah...blah. But I sold off most of my older OOP Phantasm DVD's on ebay, so that more than covered the cost.
So far I'm sticking with just buying the Well Go set. But I see nothing wrong with buying both if you want a complete experience.
Here are some more pics of the Arrow set, and a size comparison of the ball with the old Anchor Bay UK DVD set's ball:
I won't be buying it for me. But I suspect, if someone buys it for themselves, they might enjoy it. When someone enjoys something, they enjoy something. A person entertained by such a film followed by such sequels will probably be satisfied. If satisfied is on their list of things they want to be. If they like buying sets of movies with the movies intact. Not broken into pieces. That is, if they like movies. And collect them. Hopefully, they keep their collections inside their homes. Someone might raid them if they leave them outside.
Mine arrives tomorrow from Amazon UK. I only paid the middle shipping option (£8.99) for this and one other item in the order, but they shipped it via UPS expedited.
That's great. I had my order in with Arrow and only got a shipping notification yesterday which is a little disappointing. I was hoping they would have shipped it early from their site. Someone on bluray.com mentioned they apparently have sent out copies earlier than those notifications so who knows when it'll actually arrive.
Here's something interesting regarding the US set: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=13531878&postcount=4761
What?? Are you fucking kidding me? So Amazon.ca isn't getting it? Why didn't they say it was limited to 10,000? Honestly what fuckers. Guess Arrow is getting my money then. ~Matt
I can't imagine you can go wrong with Arrow's set. I was never overly impressed with Well Go's set anyway. It's nice but not as nice as Arrows (but that's just my opinion). I really love the new art Arrows done for each film and the book. I'm not totally in love with the outer box and the fact that the discs are in cardboard cases but that's the same deal with the Scarlett Box and once I got that in person it really grew on me.
I'm just a little disappointed that the book in the Arrow set isn't a hardcover like the Hellraiser & House sets were. The pre-release images definitely made it look as if it were a hardcover. It's 150+ pages, so it was plenty thick enough.
