I looked, no topic about this for some reason.

Jim Jaramusch's depressed Vampire movie. I loved it. It put me in a real creative mood after I watched it. Have a look at the trailer and you pretty much know what you're in for.

It reminded me of that other recent vampire film Kiss of the Damned. If you're a sucker for anything with vampires in it, check it out!

Some serious pedigree in that trailer! Thanks for the heads-up, Mok.

Really liked this too and yes it reminded me of Kiss of the Damned as well.

It's not easy to do something original around the vampire theme but I think Jim Jaramusch has pulled it off with this one.

Where it succeeds is that even if it hadn't been about vampires it would still be good because the characters are very well acted and interesting in their own right. The fact that they're vampires just adds to it.

I'm really looking forward to this - I love Jarmusch's other movies.

Very interesting take on the vampire. Detractors of Byzantine, beware, this is about vampires bored with humanity and immortality. There is no outward conflict in the film--no vampire hunters, no running from the sunrise, etc. It takes place mostly in one vamp's clustered apartment, where he writes music, sleeps, and sighs. I found the deliberate pacing to be very well done, and the performances were subtle and minute. I liked it, but in no way is this for everyone.

Watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it as a slow burn mood piece. It was nice to see vampires listening to non electronic music and not going to nightclubs in latex, quite frankly. Hoping this becomes influential in goth culture. Just a rich and textured piece of movie making that leaned more towards isolation than ennui.

This could describe most all of Jim Jarmusch's oeuvre.

I found this one easy to appreciate and hard to enjoy. The acting was good and really there wasn't much obviously wrong with the movie. Ultimately though I just felt underwhelmed. I didn't really find the characters that interesting and although the tone wasn't bad. It as well as the atmosphere could of been ramped up a few notches. Even though I guess technically it's a better film than Kiss of the Damned. I overall KOTD works much better IMO.

I finally saw this tonight. I really enjoyed it. I think only Jarmusch could make a 2 hour movie about boredom interesting.

I ordered the blu-ray from Amazon UK for around $10.00. About half the price of the domestic release.
