OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!! ShockTillYouDrop.com has received early word that Lionsgate is prepping a special edition DVD of George Mihalka's 1981 slasher film My Bloody Valentine. Artwork is in, but details on the bonus material at this time is slim. We're told deleted scenes may possibly be included - that's a far cry from the bare bones release from Paramount a few years back. The arrival of this special edition, of course, is to coincide with the January 16th bow of My Bloody Valentine 3D, so look for the DVD in stores on January 13th. the artworks looks okay, but OMG!! finally after 27 years could January 13th be the day that MBV UNCUT sees the light of day?? I SURE HOPE SO!!! http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=8216
:spit: WooHoo! Let's hope indeed that it is uncut. Man, I came close so many times to buying the My Bloody Valentine/April Fools Day double feature DVD - glad I held out.
its already up for Pre-order!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!! DVDEmpire: http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=99366293240575&item_id=1434695&searchID=422384 now all we need is a new release for Happy Birthday to Me with the original music score and i'm all set!!
It needs to be uncut, really. I found the cut print to be very disappointing. Would not re-watch otherwise.
Hmmm. What is very strange is that My Bloody Valentine has been playing all week at 7 and 10 o'clock at a MALL! movie theater nearby. Would this be an uncut print? Sometimes when a special DVD is released don't they show that print in theaters sometimes just like the recent Poltergeist DVD? Also isn't an uncut Friday the 13th DVD getting released too? This same mall megaplex played Friday the 13th last week. Maybe they are just the old versions playing because the remakes are coming. Actually this mall theater is about an hour or less away, or I'd check it out.
Probably the "special edition" is commentary from the director. Maybe a few interviews with some of the cast and maybe the trailer.
Didn't Mihalka have the uncut footage that he offered to Paramount for an uncut release but they refused? If there's any involvement from him, surely there would be some uncut footage? LOL I KNEW Paramount would never release this as a SE. Did they actually give up the rights to Lionsgate? And the R1 DVD of Happy Birthday to Me is now OOP, so...maybe it's being re-released too? I know there were TONS of complaints about the different score. ~Matt
The following scenes were trimmed or re-edited to avoid an "X" rating from the MPAA: Gore was cut from the pre-credits sequence where the woman is pushed backwards onto a pickaxe. Mabel's mutilated body was originally on screen for much longer. The scene where the bartender is playing peek-a-boo with the Harry Warden dummy was edited so that no blood is shown. He was pickaxed up his chin and out his left eye, then dragged along the ground with his eyeball hanging out. The face-boiling of Dave was shortened so you don't see the after-effects while he is dying. Graphic head-on shots of Sylvia's shower impalement were deleted. A stock footage close-up of the miner's light being shown at the camera replaces the bulk of a shot of Hollis' bleeding face after he has been nail-gunned. In the widely-seen release, the scene picks up after Hollis has mostly turned away. Howard's hanging is shortened. In the original print, he was decapitated. The decapitation was cut out, so it looks like his body just falls, stops short when the end of the wire is reached, sprays blood all over Patty and Sarah, and then resumes falling. Not only do the cuts imposed render the scene senseless, but they also make it so there's no payoff to Hollis' earlier comment that Howard would lose his head if it weren't attached. Axel's left arm gets trapped under rocks in the cave-in at the end. He rips it off to get away, leaving his limb behind to horrify everybody else. But since the key footage of the arm removal all had to be removed itself, it is hard to see exactly what happened.
Wow, that really shows how ridiculous the MPAA got with censoring slasher films. I mean, cutting gore from the pre-credit sequence? Come on... ~Matt
A few uncut shots found here: http://www.hysteria-lives.co.uk/hysterialives/Hysteria/campaignindexmbvmain.htm Not too crazy about the new cover. Kinda dug the last one with the killer posing with the pickaxe. Hope this SE delivers the gory goods. Yikes!
You might want to watch which images you are hotlinking there Mark Relford! Seems this is the SECOND time that image has come up! It appears you don't want to hotlink montersagogo.com EDIT IT NOW! But back to the new DVD, as long as it's got the uncut scenes, whether intact or at least as deleted scenes, it will be mine. I actually just got the MBV/AFD split yesterday, so speak of the devil, but at least I didn't pay a penny for it.
