MGM - What's left for Midnite Movie releases?

Not sure if MGM still holds the rights to these titles but if they do, I wouldn't mind those released as Midnite Movies. Preferred pairings:

What the hell ever happened to the Incredible Melting Man?....it made it on VHS and there is a hi-def transfer out there...one of my guilty pleasure movies...desparately needs a nice Region 1 release with extras.........Larry

 

A lot of the MGM Midnite Movies were titles produced and/or distributed by A.I.P. American International Pictures.

Rumor has it that last years batch had poor sales, thus no MM titles this year.

 

I'd really like to see Futureworld released. I've always liked it, mostly for the cast. I wouldn't mind seeing The Town That Dreaded Sundown again either. However, I could do without Sugar Hill, which is the only other movie on the list I've seen.

 

Cannibal Girls and The Town That Dreaded Sundown are my two picks.

 

They hold the rights to most of the old Empire films (pre-Full Moon), so there are quite a few of those. I'd buy them all if they would only release them!

 

Assuming Cannibal Girls is the Canadian flick done by Ivan Reitman years ago, I'm with you.

Especially on TTTDS, that movie's really great stuff.

 

That's pretty much the worst news I've heard in awhile. I was really hoping we'd get some more this year.

 

look at all the mgmg titles were very hard to find in stores return of the living dead new dvd and from beyond were available in some stores and the midnite movies were mainly available only online and in some stores

 

I'm really getting tired of waiting up for some table scraps while other films are going into their umpteenth pressing. I'm just going to get them all on bootleg and am not going to bother replacing them if they are being pressed legitimately. I realize it doesn't have as good a print, etc. but I'm getting over that real fast.

 

Yeah, MGM (and other studios) hurt themselves with poor distribution (and Best Buy exclusives), though a lot of the times, its not their fault stores won't stock them. Quite sad actually. I've been against downloading movies in the past, but hopefully one day studios will at least put up older films for downloading if they feel a physical format won't sell so well.

 

I know ABBY had been tied up in litigation for years (it was the subject of a law suit by Warner's for infringing on THE EXCORCIST's copyright) but I thought I had heard rumblings of an official release,don't know if anything came of that.It was supposed to have been available through the website devoted to it's director ,William Girdler,as an exclusive for a time as well.If you're region free THE HAUNTED HOUSE OF HORROR (aka HORROR HOUSE) and CURSE OF THE CRIMSON ALTAR are available in England (HOUSE is part of Anchor Bay UK's TIGON box set,ALTAR is a solo).

 

I've been able to find 2 different (unauthorized?) DVD releases of ABBY, but they both seem to come from the same heavily-worn beaten up print. From what I've heard, a good print of ABBY may not exist after all the litigation in the 70's.

 

Two years ago, I bought a so-called "special edition" Abby dvd: http://cgi.ebay.com/ABBY-William-Ma...goryZ617QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I'm not the seller, but this is the exact dvd I have. This dvd is complete garbage. The print looks like it barely survived an earthquake. Save your money and avoid this dvd.

I'd really like to think a nice print of Abby exists somewhere. Last year around Halloween I got to see Sugar Hill in a pristine print at a theater up in San Francisco. That was a pleasant surprise. Maybe there's hope?

 

I do have a region free player. I saw both Region 2 releases in my travels during the last year, but passed on both in the hopes that either one might be coming to the Midnite Movies line. I think the Tigon box set also has Blood on Satan's Claw? Always wanted to see that movie!

Just wondering as to whether or not Curse of the Crimson Altar has any footage cut? I heard something about that and figured it's probably one of the scenes with Barbara Steele?

 

The Tigon set is essential. Of course these might eventually come to R1 - but at best they'll only repeat the extra features and use the same transfer.
