http://www.devildead.com/indexdbtop.php3?FilmsID=10258&existdvd=500&langage=0 Surely this must be one of the great Mattei classics, right? If I read the French text right, Mattei copied a lot from Castellari's Ultimo Squalo?
I love these killer shark flicks. I got allot of the spaghetti shark films. I've never seen this one so it's a must have.
Haven't seen any of these flicks yet. I didn't find Jaws particularly interesting either. Still it's Euro Trash so I will end up buying some of these eventually
Oh I never said any of them are good. Most of the are actually cheap ass knock offs. The only film that did enjoy was GREAT WHITE. THE LAST SHARK (L'ULTIMO SQUALO / THE LAST JAWS / GREAT WHITE) - 1981 Dir. Enzo Castellari :banana::banana:
Well, that one is on DVD and there's a new one coming this month: There's an other cover available as well, very much like the recent Danish one: http://www.dvd-forum.at/28923/vorschau_detail.htm Oh, found out there's a limited edition as well: Might pick one up... But what about Mattei?
Anybody know many different DVD releases there are of L'Ultimo Squalo and which is the best one? I've been meaning to check this out for years.
skip and don't buy eyecatcher dvd version. They bootleg CODE RED titles in the past. They also bootleg Anchor Bay, Blue Underground, Retromedia, and even Columbia. It's a German bootleg operation.
100% sure. They release THE FOREST, UNSEEN, & couple of other titles of mine, and I didn't receive a dime. They even ripped off my sleeve art! They even bootleg CHUD!! One Germany dvd label told me the Italian rights owner never even heard of them. Stay away from them if you want quality discs.
It's a pity, they released a couple of Gialli I still need Or could you at Code Red perhaps release some of these ? Bloodstained Butterfly (Tessari) and Red Rings of Fear (Negrin) come to mind
RED RING OF FEAR is already on dvd on the MillCreek 50 pack. I think several horror fans in this message board already have it. As for BLOODSTAINED BUTTERFLY you should email John at Severin dvd. Severin is a cult label that release Italian films.
I wasn't all that interested, but knowing they're bootleggers makes it an easy decision not to pick this up. I love Code Red-especially once we get that Messiah of Evil release. Hopefully?
I just got my copy via UPS. Good and bad news here. The bad news is that the film, though letterboxed at 1.85:1, is not enhanced for 16x9 displays, and overall image quality is a little grungy, even the parts that aren't stock footage. The good news is that it is indeed in English and the Italian subtitles are removable, and that it still looks much better than all the Japanese subtitled DVD-Rs floating around out there.
The discs are cheap (for Euro standards at least) so I wasn't expecting much. At least the films are watchable These Mattei "classics" look like fun. I'll keep them in mind when ordering from Italy again.
