Last Night In Soho - in theaters October 22nd
This was high on my must see list last year. Really looking forward to it!
Definitely getting a bit of Supiria/Inferno vibe from this
Definitely. I feel a lot of it is the lighting which the remake was sadly missing.
I felt the remake made a conscious effort to steer away from the lighting of the original, so much so that it appears so drab and colourless that it may as well be in black and white.
Wow that looks pretty good! I like the freeze frame shattered glass effect at the end. Very retro in a way that feels understated and genuine. The eyes reflected in the knife also stood out.
I had this on my list for a while because of the actress. She puts in a good performance in the majority of her movies.
It definitely felt that way. Massive misstep in my opinion. This film on the other hand looks much more like what I would have expected a Suspiria remake to look like. It looks great.
I still need to see the new Suspiria. I have high hopes because the actress gets a lot of hype. I haven't seen her in anything yet. So it will either leave a good impression or not.
For my money, the closest thing to a "Suspiria remake" (other than the Suspiria remake) was The Neon Demon.
In look? Because I thought Neon Demon was awful and went nowhere.
I agree, the more I saw Nicolas Refn's flicks the more he seemed like a hack. I was initially impressed (still for the visuals) by Drive, until I saw Driver. Only God Forgives felt like a bad David Lynch ripoff.
I'd say "Black Swan" got kinda close to the vibe too.
Black Swan is more a remake to Etoile.
I've always felt the original Suspiria is an unique piece of work (that I REALLY appreciated after having seen the Synapse UHD) that could never be replicated. People always refer to the lighting of Suspiria and yes, this trailer has that kind of lighting, but this film doesn't give me Suspiria vibes at all. Suspiria is also made by Argento's style and the editing in combination with the colors and lighting.
I'm also one of those people who adored the Suspiria remake and felt back then that it was at least on par with the original, though of course different in a lot of things. Might change after a rewatch some day.
P.S. : this film looks great
