Synopsis: It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't.

Cast includes Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown and Doug Jones. Adapted from the book of the same name by David Wong.

Holy shit that looks AMAZING! That has to be one of the best looking horror films since Cronenberg quit doing horror. I hope it lives up to that trailer. I wonder if Coscarelli will be able to get this a wide theatrical release. Here's to hoping.

Looks good to me so far. I'm a big fan of Clancy Brown and the story already has me interested.

Too much comedy, but the cast is pretty good (can't STAND Giamatti though, who on Earth thinks pimping his involvement is a plus?) and it looks well enough written. I'd check it out if it finds its' way to Netflix: Watch Instant in the near future.

If it''s anything like Bubba ho tep, then I really want to see it, cause that one had the comedy in all the right places & the heart in all the right places. I trust that Don knows what he's doing from his past efforts & it will show on the screen.

I'm hooked! Wish this were an October 2011 release, though. Looks really, really fun.

I have the book this is based on, haven't got around to reading it yet. Looks like I have an excuse to read it now.

This looks very interesting, and makes me very excited to see it. I love Coscarelli's films and his touch is present in the trailer.

Shit, now I'm gonna have to try and read the book before the movie comes out! Great cast and with Coscarelli in the directors chair this could be fantastic.

Yeah this looks pretty damn good! Maybe if this does well we may finally see the finale of the Phantasm series.

I'm just now coming across this trailer...holy shit what just happened?! Is this coming out soon in stores? Being this thread is a year old I'd figure it'd be out by now.

I caught this at the Toronto Film Festival and it was pretty good but not great. At the Q&A afterwards Coscarelli said that Giamatti expressed that he's a genre fan and really wanted to work with Coscarelli. He was probably the best actor in the film. IMO, the main characters weren't that convincing and really brought the movie down for me. Too bad because I was really looking forward to it and hoping that it would be right up there with Phantasm. It's still decent, though.

Read the book a while back, wasn't bad but I wasn't impressed. A splash of cool concepts tied to a meandering plot - not an unusual pit for authors to fall into.

In comparison, Bubba Ho-Tep was a better, tighter story - but then again, it didn't try to stretch its premise across a full length novel. From a scripting standpoint, its was well suited to feature film conversion, which IMO showed in the product. Didn't hurt that the cast was particularly talented, either.

I see potential for Coscarelli to have turned the source material for John Dies into something worth watching, but I can just as easily see the weaknesses of the source dragging down such an attempt. Where Ho-Tep for me was a "make a pilgramage to the nearest theater showing the limited release" event, it will probably take strong reviews to get me to see this one.

Just finished the book, which I personally enjoyed the hell out of, and can't wait to see Coscarelli's adaption. He seems a perfect fit to adapt the material after his success with Bubba Ho-Tep.

I read the book at the beginning of this year and loved it. It's like a stoner version of Naked Lunch. If you like off the wall horror/scifi kind stuff this is up your alley. I'm still looking forward to the Coscarelli film, but, after re watching the trailer after reading the book, I'm kind of nervous a lot is going to be lost in translation.
