sugar hill is one of my guilty pleasure films. robert quarry always adds so much to the proceedings. is this title available at all on the shiny format?
Yes. I've had it for a couple years now. Got it for like $9.99 a while back. It's one of my faves, too. Grew up watching it as Zombies of Sugar Hill on Fritz The NIte Owl's Double Chiller Theatre.
MGM has the US rights, so it *shouldn't* be available on DVD. I'd be curious to hear about the DVD you have. The best print I've seen is an off-air recording of a cable broadcast of MGM's remastered print.
I think there's a PAL one out there someplace. edit: yep. http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/Q-T/sugar_hill.html I don't own it, but i did download it about a year ago and I assume that it originated from the same source. It looked pretty good. I'm looking forward to buying a legit R1 copy in the future whenever MGM gets back into the program. It's perfect for the midnite movie line, but since they released Blacula as part of the Soul Cinema Collection that's probably where it will wind up as well.
Probably the same budget bootleg dvd I've seen here in San Francisco. I'm still waiting for a legit release. Fingers crossed MGM will include it in either the Midnite Movies or Soul Cinema line.
