I already ordered a Phantasm sphere. I'm going to order the Evil Dead set. What are some other good box sets or essential purchases out there that are still available? I'm just looking for horror flicks.

I was reading about that Hellraiser set. I'd like to get it, but I don't want to get stuck with unbalanced discs and shit. I've never seen the Aligator movies, but they look like fun.

I'm not a fan of Alligator 2, but the first is a classic and makes the import well worth the purchase. It was one of my first other region purchases.

I'm not region free, but the Sazuma Cannibal Ferox tin is amazing. Not many special features, but the picture quality far surpasses that of the grainy Grindhouse release. I also love the tin itself: it isn't big and bulky like the AB tins; it is about the size of a DVD case and has hinges so the front of the tin is connected to the back. The $40 I paid for it from Xploited is a bit steep but to me it is money well-spent. I'm sure I'll appreciate it even more once I get a region-free player! :D

Depending on how you feel about Japanese cinema, get Hiroshi Teshigahara's The Face Of Another. I think it's the best movie I've ever seen.
Plus, now you can get the versions of Braindead that have more footage than Dead Alive.

The BFI release of Salo is worth getting if you're so inclined. It's not perfect, but it's also pretty cheap. And if you liked Shaun of the Dead, the Spaced Collector's Edition is worth importing.

What's this about unbalanced discs? I haven't had any trouble with mine (although I haven't watched part 2 yet, and only about 15 minutes of the first).

Like SaviniFan said, the second Alligator kinda sucks. Good news is it's free with part 1 which is a blast. There has to be some legal reason these aren't available in region 1 yet, and still not with a solid date. Compare prices between www.sendit.com and www.blackstar.co.uk and you should be able to get it cheap. You could also try amazon.co.uk if you want to gamble on a used copy.

I've been thinking about picking this up:

It would probably be about 20 bucks shipped, but you may be able to find it cheaper.

And this is a sweet looking Tremors set, but it's a bit pricey.

It's in one of the threads here. Someone said there were problems with the labels being fucked up, so they spun weird.

I'm making a list of shit to get. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. :)

If anyone wants the Hitcher SE, I still have the German version which is the same content, just harder to read covers & menus, for trade or sale.
It may be cursed as many trades have fallen through though. :nervous:
    PM me if interested.

There are good SEs of MISERY, EXISTENZ, and of course FRIDAY THE 13TH to be had. Also, the entire "Dungeons & Dragons" cartoon series, DELICATESSEN, or the AMITYVILLE HORROR (1979) SE which has what I believe to be all of the bonus disc features from the R1 box set, without having to pay for the sequels.

Is there an SE of eXistenZ that's better than the Canadian R1 release?

Trouble Every Day (that is if you enjoy the film),

Yes, the labels are off-kilter on one or two of the discs in the Hellraiser ABUK import set, but not all of the discs in the set for some reason. They are not defective or anything and you really can't tell just by examining the label, but when you pop them into your player they're going to make a bad whirring noise. The good thing is that the noise stops when you actually start playing the movie. Anchor Bay UK has had the same problem on many of their releases, including The Unnamable 1&2 set...and that also oddly only has one disc in the set with the label being screwy.

Oh and to the original question of this thread... I highly recommend the Danish 4-disc import set of Lars von Trier's Riget 1&2 (aka The Kingdom).

The Anchor Bay UK releases of Blood on Satan's Claw and Razorback are both great releases.
