Not to mention KILL BILL was originally released as 2 movies, so we have that on DVD in the format it was originally presented in theaters.

GRINDHOUSE wasn't, so there isn't an American DVD release that presents this in the format it was originally shown. Plus there is missing footage (the trailers) that isn't present in either PLANET TERROR or DEATH PROOF.

I do have a pretty good fan edit that combines KILL BILL 1 & 2 into one film. But I can live with the current DVD releases of KILL BILL 1 & 2 fine. I've got the superior Japanese version of KILL BILL 1 that has the big sword battle in full color and with restored footage.

    I have that one too...

I was surprised to see the added violence to the animation as well.

I actually went out and bought this set. It's fantastic, and i'm extremely happy i did, but i meen if you got to really any horror convention that focuses on merchandise, you'll be able to find the two discs that aren't available in the U.S. Of course they're bootlegs, but at least they're there.

Still for anyone with a region free DVD player, i highly suggest picking this up.

QT probably works as hard putting out DVDs as he does putting out films, lol. Seriously i love the majority of his work, but he's only made a handful of films in the time that some quality director's have put out 3-4 times as many.

That said, I'm still hoping a grindhouse theatrical version will be released. I wasn't the hottest on Death Proof, but Planet Terror and all of the trailers/ads/etc would be nice

I have Japanese 6 disc set and am more than happy with it. The packaging is also pretty outstanding. The only think its missing is the "Hobo w/ a Gun" mock trailer.

I suppose this should go in the regular Grindhouse movie discussion thread, but this one's recent and good enough.

I saw Grindhouse last night, theatrically at a midnight screening. Still a fun time. Now that it's been out a little while and everyone's pretty much seen it, you get a crowd that is more into it. There was a good 200 or so people there, and rveryone was jazzed for the fake trailers. Planet Terror was actually a little better than I remember. I guess my only complaint with it is the 15 or so minutes from the time the group meets the military until Cherry is given the machine gun leg. There are a couple good bits in there (I like the gun trick with El Wray, but that's about it), and it really slows things down.

Before the movie, I talked with my friend on an over/under for walkouts after Planet Terror and the trailers. Not due to people thinking it was one movie, but referring to the anti-Death Proof contingent. I guessed about 10. Sure enough, after Thanksgiving, there were 8 immediate walkouts. With about 10-15 more as Death Proof went on.

Still Death Proof is obviously the better entry here. It starts out slow, and takes it's time getting to where it wants to go, but the payoff is intense. I think Tarantino really accomplished something here. 70s movies were talky as hell, usually low budget filler to get to the car chase or 1 or 2 violent scenes. QT did the same here, but with his more unique style. The dialogue has a rhythm to it, and even if it's far from realistic, that's never been his goal. It's the colorfulness and again the rhythm. Even as the clock was approaching 3AM, I still find myself engrossed in the story.

And the cheering at the end showed I'm not the only one who loves DP.

And yet, we have no R1 release of the theatrical cut. WTF Weinsteins?!!?!?!?

Speaking of Grindhouse, some new "rumors" are popping up about Machete finally getting completed this year. We shall see...
