That's what already happened in the Freddy and Jason movies. Except for the first films, the sequels got more and more stupid and annoying characters, to the point that we cheered for Jason and Freddy instead.

Jason as a hero? Lol. Yeah never understood that one. They talk about that in the CM doc, that people relate to him, etc.

Eh no, not of you are normal. These flicks are fun, nostalgic roller coaster rides that some of us grew up with, no more, no less.

As far as the deleted effects, I'm just glad it's basically 6 down, 2 to go!

I agree regarding Jason as the "hero". But that is my "thing" with horror films. I want to be SCARED of the villain. I don't want sympathy because they become less scary to me. For the "Friday the 13th" movies, I just remember (circa 1981 to 1984) my favorite thing was the cat and mouse sequence between Jason and the lead girl. I just loved vesting in the main character and seeing what they go through to make it out alive. I wanted to cheer for this person...not so much the monster...

What disc is the footage on? I can’t tell from the back of the cases.

    What is it titled?

    Nevermind. Found it. Thanks.

What’s odd though is that I couldn’t get back to the main menu from the extras to play the movie. I had to stop the disc and restart it. Weird.

Yeah but we are old school horror fans. There was that bit in the Cabin in the Woods movie that attempted to show that most don't care about that anymore. I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen the movie. I was ahead of it myself and didn't find it that good. But it's pretty much the opposite of the whole wanting the lead girl to survive.

This got nothing to do about modern horror, this started in the 80:s.
The reason why both Jason and Freddy became "heroes" is thanks to the fucking MTV era, in the middle of the 80:s, with all the music videos, both of the characters showing up in talkshows, the toys, video games etc.
Anything scary about the characters flew out of the window around 86-87. That's why I prefer horror movies from the early 80:s. Before the genre became a joke.
I remember when we watched Jason Lives on cable, back in 87, and cheering for Jason to kill the stupid teens. "Go get them Jason". I mean seriously, most of the characters are annoying assholes. :D

It was different in the early movies, like part 2 and 4, when Jason was still scary.

And talking about Jason Lives. If Tommy didn't dig up the grave, Jason would have remained dead, and all those people would still be alive. Tommy is a fucking idiot, who should be blamed for everything ;)

I finally watched those extended and cut gore scenes from part 2. I feel like there's more stuff that's either lost or destroyed from the film. Terry's death isn't shown. I'm assuming something was planned there but maybe not. And Mark still has that weird fade out while he's tumbling down the stairs that makes me think there's more to that. As for what they do show, I wish it wasn't cut from the film or that an uncut negative existed. I found myself being reminded of kills from the first Friday film while watching and I realized just how unfairly this movie was treated.

Watching Part 2 again I was a bit sad on the kills side but also grateful that the cast and location is great and really help the film as it's still one of my favorites.

I'm glad that they don't show Terry's death. She's probably my second favorite in the whole series. But the shorter deaths do make me wonder if the after death edits with the zooming and white light were always intended or something that came from the edits. I tend to like those in Part 2. I think it happens in some of the others but I can't remember.

They are now saying Paramount destroyed the uncut footage for VII way back in the 90's. That's why there's only the vhs type footage available.

I'm confused then. Why did you say "they are now saying" then?

Fans are always going to keep hoping somewhere out there the footage still exists in better quality. I may be wrong but wasn't the same said for My Bloody Valentine?

There's been a clickbait article going around recently about it. I keep seeing it shared on social media, and saw it shared on another forum as well. But yes, it's old news recently re-packaged to look like new news.

I hate when that happens. Saw a post on facebook linking to footage from the alt cut of Hellraiser Bloodlines with the headline "It does Exist". I was like, yeah the work-print has been floating around online for over 15 years now lol. Repackaged news is so annoying. Especially when it's really old news and no one cares to just be truthful about it in the article or re-post.

Yep. Saw an article. So I posted about it. Had zero clue it was "clickbait"

Personally, I never heard anyone talk about the footage being actually destroyed on purpose. So I posted it. It was new to me. And part 7 is one of my favorite entries. Never heard the story before.

Really? I never read people on this forum discuss the topic of the footage being destroyed by Paramount.

^ Back then, it was customary for studios to discard that stuff simply for the vault space. There wasn't an outlet for them, and it just takes up space. Same is true for Friday 2 & 3, April Fool's Day, etc. I would imagine the reason they were able to find materials for My Bloody Valentine (also Paramount) is because it's a Canadian movie they acquired and not one they produced themselves. Pretty sad and frustrating, especially when that material would have been in the film if not for the MPAA.

When Synapse released Curtains, which was a troubled production that was heavily re-shot, they found paperwork that all the material had been sitting in the vault up until 2009, when the owner ordered the excess material destroyed for the vault space. We missed seeing the original version of Curtains by a matter of just a few years.
