I watched "No More Mr. Nice Guy" on VHS before the ANOES remake came out. It sounds good on paper: Freddy's "origin story" directed by Tobe Hooper. But it is fuckin' awful. I have little to no hope for the rest of the series.
I agree, the acting and dialogue were atrocious-Freddy yelling 'Oh yeah, I'm thirsty.' as the cop poured gasoline on him. Awful.
In case anyone is interested, El Rey will start airing these tonight at 11PM. Tonight's episodes are listed as: Rebel Without A Car The Bride Wore Red Do Dreams Bleed The End Of The World
I set my DVR. Is this the first night they are airing these? I ask because they are starting with episode 9...
I had never seen the show before, not even the episodes on the Elm Street blu-ray bonus disc. The comments here coupled with the fact that I never really cared for Friday The 13th: The Series had me a little reluctant, but as a horror fan I felt obligated to try. Watched the "Rebel Without A Car" episode and thought it was a hoot. Just good goofy fun, especially the sorority themed later-half. Maddy from Friday The 13th VII: The New Blood played a bitchy sorority sister, and the bullied pledge finally snaps and kills everyone (poor Maddy gets a meat fork to the hand then has her throat slit). Then the pledge has initiation with their corpses all dolled up and seated around the room. I've always loved that slasher movie staple with all the corpses sitting around a table (Happy Birthday To Me, Mortuary, Dr. Giggles, etc), so for me I thought that was a riot. The first half was fun too, sort of Christine meets Trick Or Treat. If the rest of the series is this much fun, then I'm in for a treat.
I caught one of these during the day for lunch last week I think. It was an episode with the cop from Law and Order SVU. She was really beautiful back then. She played a bookish type that was going to be a doctor. I put the whole show on my watch list. I think I saw some of these episodes when I was a kid. They are all kind of jumbled in my mind. This show, a show called Monsters I think, Tales from the Crypt (or Creep), and another one I can't remember.
The episode list descriptions on Comcast for these are wrong too. I saw some of an episode with the lady from CSI Miami. But when I searched for the episode on IMDB, the cast was wrong.
The entire series of Freddy's Nightmares is now streaming on Tubi. For those unfamiliar, Tubi is a free streaming service from Fox/Disney. They just make you watch a couple ads every 15 minutes or so.
I hear it's region locked/blocked. Might need a VPN if you're outside of the US. I wonder if this means we might see it released on physical media sometime this year?
