No, the 88 Films Blu-ray of Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is definitely "B" locked. I just tried the disc on my Sony multi-region player, and when set to "A" it gives you a message of incorrect region/player. When I set the player's region to "B" it plays perfectly fine however. But yes, the American Ninja Blu-rays are all coded for both "A" and "B" (not "C") though, so those will play on North American players. I would "guess" that any future 88 Films releases of Retromedia titles (like Scalps) will also be region locked by license agreement.
Thanks for checking Kat. Since it's technically a marketplace seller, Amazon isn't allowing an exchange (even though there is plenty in stock). Just a straight return. And since I used $35+ free shipping, I'd have to either re-order and pay $3.99 shipping or wait until I have $35+ worth of stuff to purchase. I'll probably just skip it and buy the 88Films release, and make sure I get a region free player next time I have to buy a new player (hopefully way down the line, the current one's working just fine). I'm wondering if it's disc rot? Wasn't there an issue with the early LionsGate and Full Moon discs where a lot of them started rotting? Maybe Retromedia is having the same issue?
That could be a definite possibility... but it would be the fastest case of disc rotting that I've yet heard of. :eek1: The Full Moon replacement disc (to fix the audio) of their Puppet Master Blu-ray rotted, but that was actually a BD-R disguised as a pressed disc. Criterion also had some specific discs rotting (bad manufacturing batches) a couple of years later. Did you try to play the disc on another player to see if the same problem still occurs? Some players can just have trouble with a disc once in a while, but they'll play okay on another player.
Yeah, I tried it on two different players. I even tried it 3 times in the first player, ejecting then jumping ahead to that chapter. It was fine until chapter 11. Weird thing is it doesn't start freezing at the exact moment. First it started moments before the chainsaw dance, another time during, another time a little after. But always somewhere around that scene. No matter. It's all packaged up for the UPS guy to pick up tomorrow. I'll scoop up the 88Films disc next time I see a cheap price.

The UK Blu-ray release has been pushed back to March 2016, so who knows when the US Blu-ray will come out.
I haven't seen any mention of Scalps in a while. It looks like the next Blu-Ray is going to be Biohazard. https://www.facebook.com/1135449486....6641.113544948689048/915046211872247/?type=1 https://www.facebook.com/1135449486...total_comments=1&comment_tracking={"tn":"R9"} https://www.facebook.com/1135449486...otal_comments=22&comment_tracking={"tn":"R4"}
Got the Biohazard Blu-ray yesterday... The transfer looks amazingly good. Nice visible detail and natural grain, and strong colors. It's definitely a major upgrade over the old DVD. I haven't watched the "Remembering Biohazard" Featurette yet, but it runs about 40 minutes in full HD. There's also a 6-minute Featurette called "Unfinished Beyond Fear Footage" which is lost footage from the uncompleted film of the same name. My only complain would be no lossless audio or bit-rate upgrade over the DVD again. With about 5 gigs left on the disc to spare, it really should have been. It's also worth noting that Fred mentioned there would be both a Blu-ray & DVD in the case, but that's not accurate...it's a Blu-ray only. He might have meant that when the regular edition comes out though.
I wonder if the scan will be the same on 88 films release? It says "uncut scenes restored from video elements" for this
