I want a digitally recreated lovingly remastered uncut version of Haunting Desires.

I received the Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers Blu-ray today...

As expected, no lossless audio or...and thus no real improvement over the old DVD.

The transfer looks really good though, AVC encode and nice grain structure. No DNR thankfully. There's also really no print damage, and the colors are vibrant. This is easily the very best the film has ever looked.

All of the bonus features appear to be ported over from both of the old DVD editions. I haven't had a chance to check out the new documentary (runs 22 minutes), but that is 1080p also.

Supposedly region free according to the product description on Amazon:

    Probably so...

Most of their releases are region free. The product page on Amazon UK says it will be "All Region Codes"

They also posted this on Facebook today:

I watched Fred's HCH blu-ray last night. The transfer is fantastic. For the first few minutes there is something strange with a black background and one obnoxious scratch but once that clears up the print is pristine. It is a marvelous release.

Not sure what the big deal is about a lossless audio track. This is a HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS not TOP GUN. No one is going to be demoing their sound setup with the 88 films release.

HCH is my favorite B-movie so I want to own both releases.

The problem is this is a 2015 Blu-ray release and not a 1997 DVD release. It doesn't take any extra effort to put a lossless audio track on the disc.

And also the Blu-ray only has the 5.1 "remix" which tends to sound fake at times, and the original mono mix wasn't even included...which was on both old DVD releases.

When is HCH available? I keep trying that Amazon link but nothing is there and I see some of you have received it - just wanted to make sure I didn't miss the boat

Yeah, you missed it. It was on there for a day or two (January 9th) and all sold out pretty fast. There's supposed to be some more available soon, and then some available that are unsigned.

Cool thanks- I'd be happy with an unsigned one when they are available

I'm a big fan of the film, have seen it numerous times and neither of the things you mentioned impaired my experience with the new blu-ray. It's Retromedia, we're lucky it's in HD ;)

Duh, I never said it "impaired" the viewing.

I'm a big fan of the film too, but if you want to sit back and glibly settle for 1997 technology on a 2015 Blu-ray, that's entirely your prerogative.

Personally, I'm far more disappointed in the Blu-ray only including the 5.1 "re-mix", which often sounds very hollow and fake, than the lack of a lossless track. The original mono mix on the old DVD's sounded far more natural. Why they chose not to also include that is boggling, and hopefully the 88 Films release will include it.

Not sure why you feel the need to be rude. Oh ya, this is a message board. ;)

It would have been nice to have the orignal mono but has Retromedia ever had a perfect release. I own dozens of their DVDs and most of them have some huge flaw (mostly VHS-like transfers). This HCH blu-ray is about as close to perfect as we can expect from them. Despite that criticism I'm happy to support Fred. If I don't than I can't expect to see blu-rays of EVIL TOONS, ANGEL EYES, SPIRITS, BEVERLY HILLS VAMP or WITCH ACADEMY. I suppose there is no hope for SCREAM QUEEN HOT TUB PARTY regardless.

Fingers-crossed that 88 films gets it right.
