However, I do have a lot of CDs and records, and for some reason I don't see that as clutter. I would never get rid of my music. I don't know why I feel differently about it, I just do. ~Matt
DVD's: somewhere around 460 Now if we're talking CD's, that's my thing more so, I'm in the low 2,000's in that category.
I'm not about to do an accurate tally, but my main collection is on three separate shelves that can hold up to 959 DVDs and it's filled. However, a lot of those are box sets and take up more space. There's also an overflow of my kid's films, promo copies and movies that I plan upon selling at some point and so I don't count them. I've been collecting for 10-11 years so I guess my overall lifetime average is round about 2 titles a week.
Don't know the exact count, but I would guess around 400-500 DVD's and 200-250 blu-rays. I too have slimmed my collection down. There was a lot of shit in there that I never watched so I got rid of them.
This was done well over a span of 10 years. Also a bulk of which was purchased when I was younger and had more money to burn. So a few thousand a year is quite possible. I didn't drop $10,000 in a year or anything crazy. I also purchase everything online at cut prices. One main reason I don't buy much anymore is that prices are higher these days; I only pounce on good sales. There was a time when I saw my self as the curator of film history, but now I focus solely on my own tastes and interest. I've been slowly weeding out the rest; very slowly. It's also much easier to see and rent these movies now without purchasing them.
I have a lot more than I thought! Counting box sets as the number of movies, I've got 619 DVDs, 1 VCD, and 1 Blu. I don't have a blu-ray player yet, but I had a (time sensitive) coupon which made it nearly free. I also have a pile that I intend to sell when I get around to it, of another 103 DVDs and 1 VCD. Plus around 36 DVDs that came with CDs of music, and another 800 or so music CDs. Like Matt, I tend to winnow my movie/video collection down over time (I just recently got rid of 50-80 or so). I've probably bought and sold almost as many DVDs over the years as I now own, and fortunately have only re-bought/double-dipped/upgraded on a very few. But this is since DVDs were introduced however many years ago, and usually as cheaply as I can get them. But still, damn. It's too many. If I watch one per day, it will take me almost two years to watch them all, and I don't watch a movie every day (and have netflix anyway). I feel pretty down about this - I may have to console myself with a shopping spree... (kidding- and I have ample storage now)
DVDs, Blu-ray & HDDVDs: appr. 6,900-7,000 Laserdiscs: 417 VHS: Not sure, but maybe 150-250 Not sure how many CD and records I have, but probably around 2,500. I have uploaded my movie collection here: http://www.homeofhorror.com/phpdvdprofiler/ There's seperate tabs for laserdiscs, but I've only added a couple of VHS titles as of now.
3500 or something , made my own shelves cover the entire bedroom walls and a designer shelf in the living room
Well you have much more strength than me. I've been able to get rid of a lot of my movies, but there are even some that I don't watch too often that I can't part with.
Funny I came across this now, almost 24 hours after pulling out a bunch of titles to sell. I used to have around 400 or 500 at my highest capacity but now probably have somewhere around 200. Maybe 30 CDs too as I put them on my iPod and only keep my favorites (Dwarves, Cramps, Misfits, Samhain, Stooges, etc.)
Just for fun: Taking all the totals(rounding up) of dvd totals posted. Using a price of $10 each. (and we all know some were less but most were this and a lot more) Under 20 people = $309,000 Dollars And that's using a low average per price! & I was counting Blu-rays at $10 each too.
Dvd-1845 br- 157 laserdisc- 231 VCD- 16 like x-human I bought alot more when I was younger. I was 20 when dvd was brand new technology in the late 90's and bought my first player for $450. Almost anything I saw in the theater, even if i just liked it, i bought for archival purposes. I was so taken with dvd quality that I was all about building a film archive. I got over that but still buy a alot, usually 2 or 3 titles a week. I'[ve sold A TON over the years, probably my collection once over at least but still hang onto quite a few things that I dont watch often for nostalgia or collectors sake.
Your not helping.... Actually the way I look at it.. I used to spend $50 a week on cigarettes. I quit smoking. Now I spend about $20 a week on DVD's. I'm actually making money! whoohoo
