I'm getting close to that point where hoarders should be giving me a call soon.

How many are you up too?

    Here's my count.

    Horror DVD's - 894
    Horror Blu-Ray - 51

    Non Horror DVD's - 156
    Blu-Ray Non Horror - 30

I'm too lazy to count mine but the last time I did I had well over 2000 DVDs.

IKEA Billy shelves with extra shelving on top. One holds about 450-470 (depends) DVDs. Got five in my room pegged to two walls. They hardly take away room space.

It doesn't look like 500 cases and boxes when it's in two different rooms. The scary thing about my collection is that I have acquired close to half of it over the past 24 months. I probably owned less than 20 Blus two years ago.

Wow Ash, you have a laser focus on horror.

Wow your collections are MASSIVE. I'm the type of person who hates clutter, though, so my collection has never reached more than 350 DVDs. I condensed it a while ago and I'm down to about 200. About half of them are blu-rays. I have like 100 HD rips, though. I'm constantly getting rid of some, and getting some new ones, so my collection stays relatively the same size all the time. It got to the point where I owned movies that I never ever watched, so I got rid of 'em. Got quite a bit of money for them, too.

I'm to the point though where I don't buy DVDs anymore. A lot of the DVDs I got rid of months ago are now coming out on blu-ray (and I have a bunch of HD rips of movies that haven't come out on blu-ray yet). My collection is pretty tiny.

I guess I see my collection as a walk though the history of horror films. It doesn't even matter if I watch them often or not. I just want to know I have them. Just looking through them is half the fun. It reminds my of the good old days of browsing though the horror section of my local Jumbo Video or local mom and pop store. Expect my collection is better :)

That's exactly how I feel, and I like to see the glee on people's faces who dig through my collection and are like, "Holy crap! I haven't seen this in forever! I remember this movie!"

I don't even know where I'd begin to count my collection at this point, it's an avalanche. I just keep buying more and more cheap bookshelves at IKEA to try to keep up with it. I remember at one time though we tried estimating how much I've spent total on my DVD collection -- it could've been a down payment on a house or a much nicer ride than the minivan I'm currently rocking. :(

    ~1,500 DVDs
    ~500 Blu-rays

If there was a reliable, comprehensive VOD service available where I live, I'd sell a good 80% of my collection tomorrow.

At a bare minimum your looking at over $35,000 dollars. Realistically, probably well over $50,000.

Yeah I know what you mean. I love looking through other peoples' DVD collections, but when I see mine I look at it and go "ugh, I have too much shit on these shelves" so I pick through the ones I can live without and thin out my collection a bit. It's just who I am. I HATE clutter. It's also that I'm a full-time student so I can't exactly be blowing money on DVDs and blu-rays. I actually sold a lot of them a while back because I really needed the cash for a course I wanted to take.

Not only that, I'm so busy (I work full-time and I'm in school full-time) and I hardly ever watch many movies outside the ones we screen in class. Maybe in a couple years I'll go back to collecting them, just now it's not a very good financial investment. Just paid off my VISA and I want it to stay that way for the next while.

You guys should post pics of your collections, though. I'd love to see them.

    ~Matt
