Goin' downtown after class today. If I can find it in my travels, I'll be picking this up for sure. Always a good feeling to have a cleaned up DVD/Blu-ray to replace an old bootleg!!
I'm psyched for this one, 12-year-old magnitude!! Can't wait for it to arrive. Not to mention all the other stuff coming out around the corner. What a season for great releases!!
Thanks, I was pretty stoked. Like I said, I'm looking forward to watching it. Has anyone found out what the newly shot scenes for the film are? I remember some talk about when it was announced.
I've read about what was added, but it involves the ending of the movie and it sounds like you haven't seen it yet. But avoiding spoilers, there is an added shot involving the tractor in the final scene which is supposed to make the ending less ambiguous. It sounds unnecessary, as I have never found the ending to be very ambiguous. It was pretty clear to me, it is a great ending too.
Thanks for not spoiling it. Guess I'll watch it first and then if I'm still curious as to what was added I'll back here again.
I agree with you, Hook. When I read about what the new shot was going to reveal, I was actually disappointed. I see no reason for any 'ambiguity' to be cleared up. It sounds to me like the new shot will be out of style with the rest of the film, in terms of what is being shown. This is a supernatural story. Everything doesn't need to be obvious. The original version is perfect as it is. I'm hoping there will be two versions of the film on the DVD, the original version and the one with the new footage, but I doubt that will be the case. It will be great, however, to see the film in HD. I saw the television premiere as a kid in 1981 and it scared the hell out of me! The acting, cinematography, editing and score are outstanding. I think 'Dark Night of the Scarecrow' is easily the best TV horror film ever made.
Well, I finally sat down to the VCI dvd!! I was more than impressed, loved the commentary and the vintage "CBS Saturday Movie" intro clip!! I was worried on the added stuff but it wasn't as traumatic as I was expecting. Just one super quick shot, appears to be vintage material, matches well. I always figured what the shot reveals, so no harm done. There's one other little added tidbit as well, an audio piece in one specific sequence. It's newly recorded but fits in well, I didn't notice it until hearing about it in the commentary. IMO, great disc!! Added: Oops make that 2 audio add-ons, Cricket chirps were also replaced with Cicada grunts. Not a big deal I guess, but why??
can someone post some screencaps? Also, is it progressively scanned? (some VCI DVD's I have are interlaced, even some of the stuff they put oput earlier this year!)
Bleah. I'm going to have to think about this one. There was no reason to ruin the film with any changes no matter how small. While he was busy making changes to an otherwise fine film, he should have also changed his name in the credits to Frank De Lucas.
