Even then, it's not like they actually collaborated right? I mean they both had two different stories. It seems no different than watching a Romero flick and then popping on some Argento straight after.

Yeah, unlike something like Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside The Movie etc, they really feel like separate movies, that don't fit together.

The original plan for the movie, was to have Carpenter and Craven to make their own episodes, but they pulled out of the project.

Lately I feel this about a lot of movies.
I have movies, that I bought and watched once on DVD, and yet I still upgraded to a blu-ray, and watched that one time, and then haven't touched the disc in 10 years.
If I'm gonna upgrade to UHD, it's got to be something REALLY good, that I'll watch at least 3-4 times, for the next decade.

I'll probably pick up Two Evil Eyes, but I also really want The Prowler lol. Now that Dead & Buried is hitting UHD, my most wanted upgrade from them is definitely The Prowler. I do think the movie drags a bit and could probably have been trimmed down to help with pacing, but the effects are some of Savini's absolute best and the kills are pretty great. Also, the blu-ray came out in 2010 so it's really in need of an upgrade at this point. It's a really grainy film and a 4K scan would help a lot with that, as I assume they have access to the OCN. And with a bit of HDR it could look really really nice.

I watched my 4k copy of Maniac last night. I could sing its praises for the grimy feel as well as tense moments (such as the nurse being chased through the subway station). It's also a beautiful presentation. I do have a couple of things I wanted to get your guys' thoughts on:

When Frank shows up at Anna's apartment, the image seems to freeze a few times. I remember the 4K restoration Blu-ray release doing the same. Is this a source issue? Do other releases of Maniac have this same glitch?

And speaking of that scene, why is Anna not at all weirded out by Frank showing up? Why isn't her first thought "how does this guy know where I live?" And secondly, Caroline Munro was a sensationally beautiful woman. How does greasy-looking, fat, and significantly older Spinell manage to charm her into going on multiple dates?

I don't know, but I believe that's one of the reasons the "dinner scene" was not present in original theatrical releases; Lustig felt too much time was being spent on the rather unrealistic pairing of Joe Spinell and Caroline Munro

I always figured that her character was just really positive and totally unprejudiced. She saw right past his lack of conventional good looks, his alarming sudden appearance at her door, and his oddball conversation - and immediately accepted him as a friend or even love interest. Application for sainthood approved!

Anyway, anyone else notice the picture freezing a few times just before Frank shows up at her apartment?

I finally finished watching the 4k of Vigilante. It wasn't bad but not really my kind of movie, hence me watching it in about 3 sittings. I could have easily done it in one but I kept popping it on late.
It looked really impressive though. The detail was nice throughout. BU has been knocking out of the park with a lot of these new transfers.

To me, it's not about how often I watch a movie - it's all about having the best possible version of the movie. I have tons of movies in my collection I've only watched once , even some I haven't gotten around to watching yet, in which I've upgraded to a better format version. Of course, this is hard to accomplish if you're on a tight budget but, thankfully, I'm not married so I get to spend ALL my money on me :)

I won't be needing upgrades of the Maniac Cop sequels, though. The Blu-rays are more than enough IMO.

Yeah but what's the point if you're not watching the movie in the first place? It just becomes collecting for the thrill and less about the film. I know it's different for different people but my goal is to try and get my movie collection down to films I'm likely to revisit more often and then focus on having the best versions of those.

Shame they couldn't get the uncut version of part 2, probably unrealistic wishing!

Got any local cult movie stores, that might import it for you?

I usually buy from a store called Videodrome over here in Sweden, that imports the stuff I want.
It's cheaper and saves me the hassle dealing with customs, delayed packages, etc.

That almost reminds me of the Swedish movie Videomannen. I loved that one. o_O

But seriously, what is with all the import fees in some foreign countries?

A friend of mine lives i Gothenburg, and are buying old rental VHS tapes from Ennio Midena, the guy the movie is loosely based on :)
Haven't seen the movie yet, but Ennio's collection is insane. Next time I visit Gothenburg, I'm gonna see if I'm allowed to take pictures.
