Damn, I was literally thinking about this last night. Well I think I might have to add this one to my list of things to buy
Woot! I've been waiting a long time on this one has they used the DVD master for their early Blu-ray release so I passed on it. A restoration of any sort has been something of a wish list item for a long while. With these UHD release I've bought more from Blue Underground over the past year than I have in the past five years. Maybe longer.
I finally got around to watch the UHD of House by the Cemetery, and damn does it blow, even the latest Blu-Ray release, out of the water. The colors are MUCH better, the dark scenes don’t suffer from poor black levels, and no blown out details in the bright scenes. Watching the UHD, it pisses me off, how they fucked up the latest Blu-ray transfer. If you only gonna upgrade ONE of their Fulci movies to UHD, this should be the one to go for. As the rest still looks great on Blu-Ray.
I'm still giddy over the fact this is even on UHD! UHD is no longer just for movies like Lawrence of Arabia
I've watched both Zombie and HBTC on UHD now and both look phenomenal. They both blew me away. Hopefully we can get something like The Beyond in 4k soon.
Yeah, and that is one hell of a spoiler, for people who haven't seen it. I'll go for the original artwork. I'll bet this will be the alternate artwork for The Prowler, when (if) they release it on 4K.
I didn't know Blu Underground was working on a Maniac Cop 2 UHD release. https://twitter.com/blunderground/status/1373002411829207041
It's not really a surprise, it's been noted before they are not so interested in new titles, which means they will be mining their bsck catalogue. So expect part 3 not long after.
I saw somewhere on Blu-ray.com an article mentioning the 4k restoration of Maniac 2 and 3 so they're both pretty much confirmed for UHD. And Dead & Buried UHD pre-order is up on DiabolikDVD now. Cover A: https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product...-uhd-region-free-blu-ray-all-region-preorder/ Cover B: https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product...-uhd-region-free-blu-ray-all-region-preorder/ Cover C: https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product...-uhd-region-free-blu-ray-all-region-preorder/
Using screenshots for cover art seems like one of those awful gimmicks that studios used to do where they'd repackage existing releases with Oscars or valentine's themed covers in an effort to appeal to impulse buyers. A boutique label doing it for non-mainstream titles like Dead & Buried or Zombie is just really baffling. If there are fans out there who dig this, then that's honestly great for them (I mean I'm not interested in steelbooks, but I know there are many fans who are). I haven't seen any indication that people are looking for this kind of thing, though. If you're going to release cover variants, why not choose 3 great foreign original poster designs and showcase those? That would seem to appeal to the collectors market a lot more than this...
I didn't see it mentioned on Diabolik, but these are supposed to be lenticular slipcovers. Blue Underground posted GIFs approximating the effect on Facebook. My opinion re: Cover A remains unchanged. https://www.facebook.com/BlueUnderg...AUG3TIhQa1PdyYuK3b4jxOEx6ounWS8&__tn__=,O,P-R https://www.facebook.com/BlueUnderg...V1aCtod7pYlAeHeb0GqCjmEQSrYyC_j&__tn__=,O,P-R https://www.facebook.com/BlueUnderg...-q-RUwzY-Je81zovGIRQybaGzfpFVYC&__tn__=,O,P-R
Saw these before also. Still dig the OG art and think it's really the only one they need but the fire one is alright. The needle one looks really boring.
I can't imagine anyone buying all 3 cover variants for Dead & Buried at these prices. Well, maybe Katatonia
