Nope, haven't read the novel. From what I've heard, it's very different from the movie.

The thing that bugs me about Valentine is that its original R-rated cut was passed by the MPAA but Warner Bros. forced them to cut it some more, thinking it was too violent. So the film is actually an R-rated slasher cut down from a harder R-rating. This makes so little sense to me.

i thought valentine was a decent movie and after hearing about all the violence that was cut in the commentary, i've been dying for warner bros. to release an unrated version

I didn't feel like starting a new thread - Does anyone else have the German Blu Ray of the 2006 film? I just got it and thought it looked really good on the big monitor here at work. Appears to be nice film grain, but also very sharp. Sounded good. I got it from a eruo seller through Amazon and the shipping was shockingly cheap.

Side note: Invariably my co workers wander in thinking it will be a "serious film" I'm watching and it pleases me to no end when it is one of these films. I'll have to check out Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers when it comes.

Is the German Blu-ray uncut, or does it use the same R-rated master as the Canadian Blu-ray?

Edit: ah nevermind. DVD Compare shows it's the shorter theatrical cut also.

I bought the limited "Blood Pack" Edition in 2013. Front case has plastic wrapping/bag filled with "blood." It looks kind of cool though.
The German Blu-ray is recommended if you don't mind the R-Rated cut. Video/Audio is very good.

I completely forget: is the unrated cut markedly different?

As far as I know, there are 4 cuts of the remake of Black Christmas.

01- US R-rated theatrical cut (US r-rated dvd and German blu-ray)
02- Unrated cut (US unrated dvd)
    03- European cut (UK dvd)
04- European cut with American cut ending (UK dvd)

I just got a headache. I know this was not universally loved but I absolutely loved it's off-the-rails weirdness. Hoping there is a way to get a definitive release at some point.

Definitely. It's about 3+ minutes longer than the R-rated cut. Violence/Gore and nudity are heavily truncated.

The cuts are often very noticeable and jarring. I'm surprised it's an R-rated cut really, it seems much more like PG-13.

I remember seeing this in the theater, and I don't remember there being much of a difference between the theatrical R-rated release and the Unrated DVD. Granted, it has been years since I saw the R-rated version, but I definitely remember there being nudity and plenty of eye-gouging.

The Unrated DVD does have an alternate version of Michelle Trachtenberg's death in the deleted scenes, but I remember it being the ice-skate scalping in the theater (which is the same as the Unrated DVD).

Finally the full Unrated cut should see the light of day on Blu-ray.

I know it’s heresy but I love this movie, even more than the original.

I don't love it as much as the original (which is one of my favorites) — but I will say it is one of my favorite "remakes" from the modern era. I like how they changed things around and didn't try to simply copy and modernize the original film.

I rewatched the 2006 version recently to compare it to the more recent one and the original. I ended up not liking any of these that much. The cast is the best part about the 2006 version but I remember it was just too crude with some elements.
