I haven't seen Barton Fink, but I have a hard time believing it'll top Naked Lunch for me.

Naked Lunch is such an awesome movie, but I will always return to the Hotel Earle anyday. Barton Fink is not only one of my all-time favorite movies, I think it's the best film the Coens ever made. Dark, surreal, quirky, mysterious, and unpredictable: all of these words describe Barton Fink yet do so little justice. Bizarre look at old Hollywood with a first rate cast. I still think this was John Goodman's best performance ever.

I haven't seen Naked Lunch but I voted for Barton Fink. Three reasons...

    1.) I love the Coens.
    2.) I love John Goodman.
3.) I love the "fiery hotel hallway" scene.

    End of story for me.

Easily Naked Lunch. Cronenberg, Peter Weller, Judy Davis, a wonderful jazz inflected score with Howard Shore and Ornette Coleman. Also, it's based on a hitherto considered "unfilmable" book by William Burroughs.

Add to that the extension of Cronenberg's "Body Horror" elements, the wonderful atmosphere of Interzone, and a typewriter that turns into a cockroach and talks through its ass. I haven't even started with the Mugwump and all their glory.

Barton Fink is good, but better than Naked Lunch? Not close :)
