Great, a heavy dose of DNR...
Especially screenshot 2 looks really muddy, with loss in sharpness and details.

    Universal has done it again...

That's what I was thinking. Some shots look ok but it seems to have a lot of dnr.

Yeah, especially the darker ones look blurry.
Take a look at the last screenshot, nr 14, where the bricks and other details on the buildings, have been cleaned out or blurred by the DNR.

I knew something was going to be fucked up with this one, especially when it said "restored" instead of "new 2K/4K scan".

Shout can be pretty hit and miss, with their Universal titles, but they did a damn fine job on the new The Thing transfer, and I would like to see what they could have done with this one.

Ugh, well cross that one off the list. It looks almost like all they did was take the old transfer and add copious amounts of DNR. In some shots it isn't too bad, but in others the detail is just gone.

Universal makes no sense. They can do really excellent transfers, or they can shit all over a release. It smells like they're shitting all over this release.

Omg what a disaster! Yup. Definitely canceling my preorder. The older screenshots look better!

What the fuck were they thinking?

wow, really big pass on this one. In #6 all the detail in the flames is gone. In #14 the texture of the street has been completely washed away. what a waste.

We need Shout Factory to rescue this one.

Universal has been very solid this year. It's a shame this blu-ray is a failure.

Well this is a weird one... a few people on the Blu-Ray.com forums who have watched the new disc say that it looks much better in motion than it does in the caps. They're saying that it looks great even.

If you look at a few of these caps up close, the new release easily has more detail despite the DNR?...

Jenny's name tag is a lot clearer in this shot...

    http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=560&y=255&d1=8867&d2=8866&s1=85263&s2=85249&l=0&i=4&go=1

Orange stripes on the white car and yellow sign...

    http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=446&y=235&d1=8867&d2=8866&s1=85271&s2=85256&l=0&i=12&go=1

Neither is perfect, but after looking at all of the caps I gotta say that I prefer this new one.

Thanks for the heads-up on this one. Pre-order canceled! What a disgraceful transfer. C'mon, Universal. "Restored" doesn't mean "digitally processed to death." Now we know why the new-to-Blu flicks in the monster legacy sets seem to lack natural-looking grain fields.

It's definitely questionable though. Some shots have a little extra clarity while others look a bit too wax-y. It seems to be the same print with modifications as opposed to a new fresh scan which is what it needs. Pretty disappointing this is still an issue for big studios in 2016. Also weird is why they didn't just licence out the title as they have done with other releases.

Maybe because it's one of those big (selling) titles the major studios don't want to lease.
