It was incredible to watch Alien on the big screen. Even though I have seen the film, about 30 times, I saw so many things in the backgrounds of the sets, models, props, etc. that I've never noticed before. It's the original 1979 cut, and I haven't seen that version for about 15 years. The new 4K transfer looked amazing. And the soundmix delivered as well. Can't wait to pick up the UHD disc. I really hope I get a chance to see Aliens on the big screen in the future.

Does anyone know if Mother is her old 70's DOS self or is she the matrix style laser font that has plagued us since the 2000's?
Thoughts? I've never seen the film theatrically so I have no real knowledge on how it should look. The details look similar but the biggest difference here seems to be colours. I'm noticing reds look a lot darker such as in the chest burster scene.
I pre-bought tix for the upcoming Fathom Events re-release in October. I did manage to catch it in a theatre about ten years ago but it didn't have much in the way of surround sound (it was an old building).
I bought and watched Alien on 4k last night. It looks absolutely stunning. For such an old film it's pretty incredible how good it looks. There's a lot more more details I'd never noticed before which blew me away. I watched the Director's Cut which I think I prefer less now that I've seen the theatrical. There's not really any big differences anyway. The other thing is don't listen to the 5.1 sound mix. There's a lot of stuff missing from it. Basically the alien doesn't make spitting noises when you see it which was just odd and I think even the score has been toned down. Checked the 4.1 mix and it was a lot better. I plan to watch the theatrical cut with that mix in a week or so.
I think there are parts of the Director's Cut I like and other parts that I could do without. It's not like the Director's Cut of Aliens which is clearly the version to watch.
Even Aliens, I think the tension at the beginning is far greater in the theatrical then the Director's Cut. Too much mystery is taken away in the DC.
