I was thinking about this today, and it just occured to me that the reason I haven't seen a lot of the 'classic' horror films has mostly to do with the fact that I'm kind of 'afraid' to see them. It seems like some movies are hyped up beyond belief and I suppose I'm afraid to watch them because I don't want to be let down. Case in point, I've had Don't Torture a Duckling sitting on my shelf for the better part of a year, yet I can't bring myself to watch it. Anyone else have this 'fear' of movies?

Yes, I have the same fear of some films. Like I couldn't bring myself to watch Taxi Driver for the longest time. Then when I finally did, I loved it anyway!

Then again, I also have a more real fear of some films, like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, which is something that I just don't think I can take ...

I have been afraid to finish Dans ma peau for the longest, mainly because the first time I tried it made me very dizzy and ill early on and I don't want a repeat performance. There was something about how it was filmed that I just couldn't take. At all.

Ichi the Killer is another one. I want to see it because I respect the director, but the reviews just scare me right off.

What about the reviews scare you?

The movie itself sounds like something I would not like. The reviews are certainly good, but the description of the content makes me want to run in the opposite direction. Probably my loss. I will see it someday.. maybe.

Whoever wrote the introduction to that article is a genius!

I was going to highlight some words, but really - the text speaks for itself!

Extended scenes of rape and depravity are not really something I seek out in the films I watch. I know I have to see these films eventually, but I've put them off forever. Yet, I've seen Salo, so I don't know what that says.

    This one's easy:

    Grave of the Fireflies

I've owned this one for more than 5 years, yet never put it in my player.

Street Trash. I watched it for the first time one day when I had a slight headache and it developed into a migraine. Every time I consider putting it in again, my head hurts a little. No joke.

1X1, Dans ma peau (In My Skin) is such an awesome movie and experience, you really should give it another go. I found it very rewarding, it's a class act.

Ichi though - what a disapointment! This wasn't a tenth as good as others had led me to believe. I maintain my Takhashi adoration though.

I had trepidation going into Mondo Cane and its ilk. And rightly so.

I've never seen MEN BEHIND THE SUN, don't really care to.

I don't really enjoy watching THE EXORCIST the way I do other horror films. I own it, but hardly ever watch it.

I'll definitely agree with that. There's a certain scene in there that gives me nightmares just hearing about it. I cannot take real animal abuse or killings in movies, especially that of cats.

It used to not bug me so much, but these days I can't even handle simulated animal cruelty in movies.

From what I've read, it's highly likely this scene is faked. Not seen the film myself.

Oh, even still, from how it was described I likely couldn't watch at all, even if faked. It's just one of those things... one of the rare things I just can't make myself watch. :(

Fair enough, it's good for us to maintain some semblence of humanity, after all. :D

There's a four disc set of Men Behind the Sun (all four films) coming to R2 soon, and I must admit, it's on my "to get" list.
