Check out the (amazing!) trailer for this movie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YGmTdo3vuY I haven't heard much about this yet, but the trailer blew me away just now. I really hope that this is as good as it seems - if so, it will be one of the best horror movies of the year, I predict.
Tagline: The first Iranian Vampire Western Read the tagline on IMDb, watched the trailer, and I'm gonna predict that it's not my cup of tea.
Cool story bro. Maybe you ought to be on this site instead?. msw7, thanks for that! I'm gay for anything with Vampires so it will be on my radar.
There is a comic being published in tandem with this film. I read the first issue, and it was gorgeous. Unfortunately, that's all it was--very bland "vampire w/ a heart of gold" story--but the film looks significantly different. Love the look of both mediums.
Good one, man. Because some pretentious hipster bullshit looks like garbage, maybe I'm not really into horror...
First off, calling any movie pretentious - specifically "pretentious hipster bullshit" - before seeing the actual movie (solely based off a trailer) is, well, the very definition of pretentious. But count me in for this Farsi vampire tale, I'm always in for a unique take on the mythos - especially when filtered through a cultural lens.
This played theatrically for a single screening in my city last night, so I went to catch it. It's a surprisingly well-restrained and executed indie film that melds genre in a fresh and thoughtful way. From the elements of horror and tension to the family drama and romance and even the comedy, each layer of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is weaved into a narrative that is both sparse and enigmatic. Excellent cinematography and sound design (that echoes Eraserhead), good performances all around, and sure-handed direction elevate this well above your typical indie arthouse horror fare. Recommended for those seek something smart, fun, and different.
It looks interesting! Who would have thought? A vampire film from Iran! I thought the scariest thing about the country besides their leadership is the Islamic religion!!
:joshua: After watching the trailer I have to agree it reeks of pretentious diarrhea. Still for a good laugh might be worth at least 1 viewing.
Not in 2015. Snobbery, on the other hand, will never go out-of-style. Let's call this what it is. If I could cite "hipster"ism as the reason Kiss of the Damned sucked so much, I'd be only happy to. Meanwhile, Detention wouldn't shut the fuck up about how "anti"-"hipster" it was. To the point where you wanted to smack the back of their heads to see if they found something else to say.
Excellent mood piece for those who do not mind "slow" movies. It works as a horror movie but also dabbles in other genres and overall the film has some depth to it. The soundtrack is great.
Saw this as well. My view is basically the same as what most will probably be. It is beautiful but very slow. It is a lot more about technique than actual stuff happening. Not my kind of thing, really.
Well made but way too slow. Basically just a drama with a vampire sub-plot thrown in as an afterthought. The first hour there is only one attack. A little too artsy for any more than one viewing.
Wasn't into it. Would have made a great 20 minute short, but makes a tedious 1 hour 40 minute feature. I'm grateful for NetFlix having this one on the same day as disc because I didn't have to waste a cent on it.
