Can't wait to get Slaughterhouse, hoping it'll be here by the end of the week. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning totally ripped it off.
Believe it or not, but Slaughterhouse is one of the few slashers from the 80:s that I have never gotten the chance to watch. So I pretty much did a blind buy on this one. Though I watched the opening scene on youtube, and it looked promising enough. Hope I will like the rest of it as well Disc should drop in on monday.
Never considered this a horror film but a boring campy comedy. If you like Return to Horror High or Troma flicks you would easily love this. I like it for those factors alone but I could understand someone not enjoying it. If your expecting some lost horror slasher style flick you will be very disappointed. The movie is not scary or horror at all, but I enjoyed it flaws and all.
Wow, I've never seen Slaughterhouse myself but looking at the screen comparisons I think the blu looks way too dark.
Yeah, I thought 88 brightened their transfers. Now it looks like they doubled down to reverse their reputation as such. I am to soon find out when my blu comes in. Should I be regretting selling my Lucky 13? The color timing does look good on the screens, though.
I didn't notice it being too dark, if anything the black levels seemed right on in the Blu. Those screen grabs make is seem a little blue vs yellow/green in the DVD.
Not unusual that screen captures crushes the blacks, depending on the settings. I´ll compare to those screens when the disc arrives.
I kinda take it back. It is too dark for my taste. Blood reads as black on clothes. At times detail is lost. The print also looks beat up (this couldn't have been from the OCN, right?). Are other 88 Blu's better. Underwhelmed.
I've only seen their The Last Horror Film disc and it looked terrific (except for two brief uncut scenes that are spliced in, which looked VHS quality). Great disc.
I'll reserve judgment, Then. But it seems to lack detail, blacks are too black (like contrast turned way up black). Makes me hesitant to buy others.
I got the Slaughterhouse Blu-ray in the mail earlier today... I thought the transfer looked pretty good, with nice grain structure. Once in a while some of the dark scenes look a little overly dark, but it's not all dark scenes. It does list this one the back cover: "in this great new HD master scanned from the original negative by director Rick Roessler!" — so I would assume the director oversaw the transfer. I'll probably hold on to the old Program Power DVD for now though... not all of the extras are ported over.
Ok, then - maybe the negative was never so sharp to begin with (missed that on the back cover). The scene where we get intro'd to Lester is so dark I could barely make him out - but maybe that's just how it looks?
I have no idea, but darkness problems and the slight print damage aside, I still think it looks pretty good.
The dark problem looks pretty significant though. It's not like the Nightmare On Elm Street set where it was darker but details were still there; this is to the point where it seems details are lost.
