I was okay with that until they somehow failed to pay as much attention to what was going on as I was. Of course the monks were fucking zombies! But, they walk right into the monestery and scream when they find out the monks are fucking zombies. Who the hell was fooled by that? A character should only be allowed to scream at things the audience would find surprising or shocking. In this movie, 49 times out of 50- every last zombie is preceded by their shadow on the walls or floors. GAAAAH!!! STUPID movie!!

Has anyone that has seen This Is the End count it as a horror film? I know it's more of an apocalyptic comedy but I also heard it has demons in it. I want to watch it as part of my October Horror Movie-athon and just curious if those who have seen it would say it would count?

If anyone here counts Jaws, and you know somebody will, go for it.

If you think it counts then it counts...just don't try to pass off Mary Poppins as a horror film

And for the record, I really enjoyed Burial Ground. All the complaints are pretty much accurate but I just had so much fun watching it.

Got home last night and wasn't feeling great so I watched the last episode of Dexter and was in bed before 8, hoping to wake up around midnight and watch my first horror movie of the season. Well I did wake up on time but still wasn't feeling great so went back to sleep. Woke up again around 1:45 a.m. and started to watch Silver Bullet as planned but fell asleep again. Then woke up around 5:30 a.m. and rewatched Silver Bullet from the beginning.

So it took a while but I got my first movie in the books.

...and I enjoyed it once again.

Masque of the Red Death - From the upcoming Vincent Price Collection Blu-ray set. Vince is so gloriously evil in this one, and it's such a great looking film. I really enjoyed this one for the first hour, but it kind of lost me right around the time Hazel Court has her satanic freak out dream sequence and I never got fully back into it after that point. I did like the outcome of the ending, but I didn't quite like how it got there, if that makes any sense.

The Vampire Show: The Thirteenth Guest (1932)

Did someone say they don't like goth girls? That's quite alright, I'm sure they don't like you either.

I use to begin at midnight with this only surviving version of Ms. Nurmi's alter-ego back in 1954 presenting Ginger Rogers and Lyle Talbot in a creaky old dark house mystery. These days I'm in bed long before the clock strikes 12. The footage also features commercials shot by (and one staring) one Edward D. Wood Jr. Mr. Wood seems something of a blight on Maila's life as people seemed more interested in asking her about her lows working on Plan 9 than asking about her highs. Hopefully more of her footage will surface as rumor has it a young redhead scooped up all other known footage... And no I'm not talking about "Ginger" Rogers; who was anything but (bottom right).

Prince of Darkness (John Carpenter, 1987)

I've always really liked this. It's a simple, linear story. It introduces all the characters, plops them all into the church, and then it just builds and builds and builds. No twists, no subplots, no deviations. But I find it such an engaging movie that I don't think that that's a detriment at all. I love the music, and I think Carpenter really captured a feeling of apocalyptic doom. Theological revisionism is something I really enjoy (films like The Prophecy, for example), but I also dig the pseudo-scientific communicating through time bit. For me, there's not a wrong note in the whole picture. Definitely prime John Carpenter.

Random highlights:
- opening credits that last more than 10 minutes
- "written by Martin Quatermass"
- the scene where Calder sings Amazing Grace as he slowly walks up the stairs
- the video signal footage (obviously)
- Lisa Blount's ultimate fate is something I've always found really disturbing
- the fantastic final shot

I always preferred Elivra...even though she is a complete rip off of Vamipira, for the 80's era however.

You lucky sunuva...!

Man, I wish I could watch multiple flicks each day. You guys are so lucky. It sucks having to work practically 14 hours a day. I usually put one movie in and zonk out before it ends.

Right now I am watching Twins of Evil. I am going to try and keep it gothic old school this year, but I will probably end up deterring off that path soon enough... I really want to get through the Coffin Joe boxset. And I really wish I could have that Vincent Price BD collection now.
