Astron 6's MANBORG (2012) from MPI 4/30
The Canadian troupe Astron 6's follow-up to FATHER'S DAY has finally been announced for US release from MPI. (I assume it'll be a Dark Sky title.)
I caught the film at last year's ActionFest and am a little mixed on it -- I thought there were some really fun spots, but overall felt the premise was a little too thin for a feature. In its defense, I had already watched five other movies that day and hadn't gotten any sleep for about three days. I'll be curious to see how it plays on a rewatch -- FATHER'S DAY just gets funnier and funnier to me. Manborg was actually made before Father's Day, but got notice after. I missed the screening at a film festival awhile back due to an interview at the same time, but it'll be a Netflix viewing for me if it makes it on there. I really didn't care for Father's Day and their shorts are sooooo much better. I just don't think they work past 20 minutes...

This looks kind of fun, but I wasn't a huge fan of Father's Day either. I agree, their films feel too long and would probably work better as shorts before the joke gets old.

My first viewing of Father’s Day, I didn’t think it was all that great either. I recently watched it again, and had a much better time with. I actually really enjoyed it. I still gotta check out their shorts.
Manborg looks great,…I will definitely check it out. |

I grew up on cheesy 80s action/scifi movies and this is supposed to be an homage to that genre. I picked up the DVD yesterday but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I've probably watched this trailer three times a day for the past two Weeks. It looks like a complete blast...Father's Day grew on me tenfold and I can't stop watchin the Astron 6 shorts...total homages that are absolutely hysterical. These Canadians are doing something right.

The best thing about it is that it only lasts about 62 minutes so it doesn't outstay its welcome.
Once the price lowers a bit for the disc, I'll order it. Astron-6 rules. |

Your wish has been granted -- Amazon dropped MANBORG to $9.99.
