Alright. So I'm new to the site & this seems like a good place to start posting. I saw Lords of Salem about 2 weeks ago & I absolutely loved it. I was not at all impressed with Zombie's Halloween movies but I did thoroughly enjoy House of 1000 Corpses & Devil's Rejects.

I really appreciate the direction he took with this one. It really screams "Argento" to me. Especially Suspiria. I had to immediately watch Suspiria & Phenomena. I can understand why a lot of people that I talked to didn't like it however. They were all expecting it to be like his earlier works. It wasn't, so they didn't like it. I did, however. It's not one that I'll go out of my way to watch repeatedly but if someone else is watching it or a lady friend wants to see it, then I would gladly sit through it again.

Watched this last night. I enjoyed it decent enough. Great atmospheric piece.

A lot of people dog Zombie for casting Sherri Moon, but the way I look at it, you know he's putting his all into something that his wife is in. And Zombie is one of the few, if not the only one, who attempts to the keep likes of Kubrick and Naschy alive. Some may say it's "derivative" but what isn't? If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.

Just like De Palma and Hitchcock... first his movies were criticized and now they are considered masterpieces...

I always keep saying that Zombie´s filmography will be regarded as cult movies in some 20/30 years.

To be honest I appreciate all his movie apart from the halloween abominations. I thought that lords of Salem was a very underated and unique piece of film making something quire rare for these days. So end verdict he has made his piece with me after the halloween bombs.

yea i picked this up for 17.99 from Amazon - for some reason I think it will be right up my alley - I actually like most of his movies - but I am in the minority >:

I did not absolutely love it, but thought it was a vast improvement over Zombie's previous efforts.
It felt like a cross between a Ti West film and an Italian horror film from the mid to late seventies.
There was, of course, some of Zombie's trademark symbolism and dream-like imagery especially at the climax which felt a little forced and unnecessary, but overall it was a very solid film.
Loved the slow burn aspect and the creepy Massachusetts locations, it feels like a near perfect Halloween/Fall season film.
I probably won't buy it, but worth seeing.

Didn't he say he was taking a break from directing?

This thing sure got plenty of good reviews.
