James Wan's Insidious (2010)
![]() I just came back from a midnight madness screening of Insidious. What a fun film that was. Easily my favorite horror film of the year, it was a perfect example of a fun house ride put to film. Great score, sound effects, cinematography and a scare around every corner. James Wan's best film to date and everyone needs to check it out. Brilliant stuff. |

I'll have to agree. It was rather fun. It had a lot of strong points from the characters to the overall execution of the film. Entertaining it is.

has this the same kind of hyperkinetic editing that ruins most films these days? that screenshot looks kinda inviting!

No! James Wan even talked about how much harder it is to cut slow moving shots where you just cannot throw in a cut away to cover a mistake. I am not a Saw fan, so I assure you I am not being biased with this guy. The whole audience seemed amused, not just me.
It isn't brilliant, but it is a different film than Saw, in a good way. Last edited by x666x; 09-15-2010 at 05:07 PM. |

Unlike Saw, I didn't hate Dead Silence (shockingly). Maybe the guy really is getting better...

After watching Insidious. In my eyes Wan has raised his stock as a horror filmmaker to A level status. Watching the film I was in constant suspense of what was behind every wall or lurking in the shadows. Yes it was a homage to films like Poltergeist of The Entity but Wan took what he loved about those films and made it his own. This was effective the same way Drag Me to Hell as both films went for laughs and scares and gradually built up to almost absurdity but in a good way. I actually think this is the better film.

I don't mind homage. When I think about what I would do if I were a filmmaker, my ideas take a lot from previous horror films- it's hard not to. I just want the acting to rise about TV quality and the filmmaking to be less trendy, more adult.
I will give this film a chance when it finally hits home video. He certainly handled the failure of Dead Silence well.

The above picture looks awesome and the plot sound interesting. Probably something I would see in the theater.

Why do I have a feeling this film is going to bomb. It's a shame too as it definitely deserves your support.
