Problems with the director I would imagine. I recall Don May saying on here once that Synapse was approached by (or approached him) at one point and he was difficult to deal with.

found this over at IMDB from someone who works with code red
And to those of you awaiting the DVD, Code Red deeply appreciates your patience. As previously noted, the camera negatives turned out to be unusable. I personally am not in charge of this release as I only work with Code Red (not for them) on this and other releases as a DVD moderator (in addition to participating in the on-camera interview with Baird and prepping interview questions for the on-camera interview with Scavolini). The delay has been frustrating for me as well, but as anticipation exploded, there was a desire on Code Red's part to get it right by releasing the cleanest version possible. More and more release prints were sorted through (three of which were telecined) for their overall merit. Unfortunately, the search for the perfect release print of NIGHTMARE has proven to be something like the search for Bigfoot. That said, it will be released this year.

Good enough - at least they tried to get it as precise as possible. I appreciate that.

I hope Nightmare really does get released. I watched my disintegrating tape last night that was copied in the 80s from a Blockbuster rental. Can't believe Blockbuster carried a movie like in their store at one time.

I lost hope of ever having this on dvd so I ended up copying it to dvd-r to preserve my vhs tape. I'm surprised Blockbuster had that too unless they didn't have the Continental video box or had it under another title.

The box my Blockbuster had showed a Freddy Kruger/ Nightmare On Elm Street ripoff character on it I think. The video company was VEC and it was made in Canada. I don't know why it was in an Ohio Blockbuster. Maybe the version I have is cut, but it seems pretty bloody.

I too will believe this when I see. Didn't they same the exact same thing a while back "oh we found a new great print and it should be out" and then we heard nothing...so I will believe it when I see it.

Any highly anticipated code red DVD's have long since crossed over into the realm of 'don't-hold-your-breath'.

What I don't get is why this isn't announced on their blog or website? Why have they purposely been keeping the progress on this film a total secret for the last 2 yrs? Why does it take Lee Christian to spill the beans on an IMDB message board when Bill Norton could have done it this whole time?
None of this makes any sense.

I finally just got around to watching this movie, and yeah man, why the f isn't this on DVD already. Classic 80's slasher gory fun. I have the Studio One VHS, and it's actually in pretty solid condition.
Code Red - do it right like you always have in the past and git 'er done.

yeah it really is amazing this hasn't been released. Though hasn't it been released on R2 legally?
Such a great sleazefest even though it has it's moments where it drags a little. The whole beginning is just unforgettable. one day I still plan to build a glass enclosure for my Continental big box VHS. Such a beautiful cover. |
