I wasn't too excited about this re-make before, but now after viewing that trailer I'm quite looking forward to it. It seems to me that more recent "kaiju" films like 'Cloverfield' and 'Pacific Rim' have drastically influenced what can be expected in both tone and special effects.

Exactly - movies that show that "gritty" but still glossy/expensive are IN.

This looks amazing, definitely jumped to the top of my must see list!

May is going to be a great month with this and X-Men: Days of Future Past, both trailers that blew me away. Amazing Spider-Man 2 looks okay as well.

Like Rodan and some spider like creature.

At 1:25 & 1:56 that's gotta be Rodan

At 2:00 that's some other monster.
Word on the streets is that the monster is MUTO. There are also a lot of rumors floating around that baby Mothra's make an appearance in the trailer as well.

I'm thankful that the film isn't teal/orange/hazy moon-blue.

I liked the skydiver trailer, but wasn't all that impressed by the second one. for whatever reason, though, this one really works for me. i am definitely excited now!

This movie HAS to be phenomenal...it has to be. I mean, after everything we've seen, how can it not be?

The only thing that made me go WTF?! in the trailer is when that monster is flying down and the soldiers are firing their puny assault rifles at it. What's the point? For the LuLz?

Yeah, at the end of the trailer they should add "In 2D, 3D AND Color"

In that situation, I probably would fire my weapon as well.
Sure I would be fucking useless, but also a natural reaction when a big ass monster is crashing down on me. Rather go down all guns blazing

Ugh - I'm getting sick of this:
(From the IMDB) For designing the Mutos, the filmmakers were inspired by Alien (1979) and Starship Troopers (1997).
By now, what films HAVEN'T used such designs as inspiration for their egg-hatched, hissing monsters? A new nemesis with creative biology would be most welcome.
Oh well, looking forward to the stomping anyway.

There is definitely enough in the reviews to get me in the theatre. Although...SPOILER ALERT don't look:

Big G is kept to a minimum until the end according to early reports. Why all the mystery? We know what he looks like, let us groove on the effects as I'm sure they cost a fortune.
I'm hoping the monsters aren't kept hidden by the usual rain, darkness and cgi debris. I want to SEE them!
