Well being at a geographical disadvantage I still have not hd the following available to me, American Hustler, Her, Frances Ha, The Grandmaster, Computer Chess or Blue is the Warmest Color. But here is my top 10 of the year as it stands at years end. 1. Mud 2. Gravity 3. The Spectacular Now 4. The Way Way Back 5. Prisoners 6. Byzantium 7. The Place Beyond the Pines 8. The World's End 9. To the wonder 10. This is the End
I have seen 0 2013-released movies so far but have a lot of interest in Leviathan, Frances Ha, and Gravity. I'm... curious about Byzantium, but this film should be the perfect excuse for hollow flash (more amusement park chaos/carnage, please!). Seems to take itself too seriously, and really- don't we kind of have Twilight for that? (Just a thought.) (Oh yeah, I saw a lengthy review with clips and all a few months back. I feel I know the movie well enough to doubt I'd be missing out.)
Well it is nothing like Twilight and I mostly like good serious films, so byzantium was right up my alley. Twilight is more of an "are you serious?" kind of film. Byzantium plays like a sister film to Interview with the vampire.
The answer to that question is: yes, they most certainly were. The last one was directed by the guy behind Gods and Monsters. And I just found out that One Direction concert movie... was directed by Morgan Spurlock. (Crazy fuckin' world.) Oh- add Pain & Gain, Like Someone in Love, Spring Breakers, and Computer Chess to my curiosities list.
don't have 10, but here are the 2013 movies that I enjoyed: 1. A Band Called Death 2. Gravity 3. Moral Sleaze 4. The World's End 5. Mud 6. World War Z 7. Hunger Games: Catching Fire 8. Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman Still hoping to see Ender's Game and 12 Years a Slave during my Xmas break here. Edited to add: forgot Gravity. Also, even though IMDB lists Machine Gun Woman as a 2012 movie, it didn't get released even in it's own country of Chile till May of 2013 so I'm counting it.
I loved a Band called Death but I never include doco's along with regular features. Blackfish was another good doco from this year.
Yeah, I have not seen very many movies this year, let alone ten that I liked. Of the ones I've seen, I enjoyed Pacific Rim, The Hobbit DOS, and Only God Forgives. I've been meaning to see Byzantium and A Band Called Death. I think the other movies I've seen this year were Elysium, World War Z, Texas Chainsaw and The Evil Dead Remake...all of which I loathed immensely. Perhaps a more fitting thread for the site would be Top Ten DVD/BD releases of 2013?
1. Upstream Color 2. Gravity 3. Amour 4. Stoker 5. Sleep Tight 6. Antiviral 7. Drug War 8. Frances Ha 9. Maniac 10. New World Probably would have Before Midnight but I did not get to see it yet
01 The Conjuring 02 Warm Bodies 03 Stoker 04 Evil Dead 05 Oz the Great and Powerful 06 Mama 07 Dark Skies 08 American Mary (2012) (U.S. limited theatrical in 2013) 09 Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 10 Stitches (2012) (U.S. limited theatrical in 2013)
In no particular order: Byzantium Mama Kiss of the Damned American Hustle Louis C.K.: Oh My God Behind the Candelabra Spring Breakers Star Trek Into Darkness Drinking Buddies Stoker Have not yet seen: Wolf of Wall Street, A Band Called Death, Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, Frances Ha, Upstream Color
I only have 8: 1. Monsters University 2. Despicable Me 2 3. Frozen 4. Turbo 5. Planes 6. Escape From Planet Earth 7. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 8. Free Birds
The older I get, the fewer new movies I see, instead I just rewatch classics or older films I never got around to watching. But from what I did see this year, here are my favorites: 1. Short Term 12 2. Before Midnight 3. Gravity 4. Found (Played at a lot of the same festivals as my film The Invoking. Probably the most celebrated indie horror film of the year with around 30 film festival award wins. It should be coming to home video next year.) 5. The Conjuring 6. Iron Man 3 7. Star Trek Into Darkness 8. West of Memphis 9. Crystal Lake Memories 10. The World's End
In no particular order Spring Breakers The Conjuring Evil Dead World War Z Prisoners Monsters University The Lords of Salem Curse of Chucky Insidious Chapter 2 Hunger Games Catching Fire
1. American Hustle 2. The Conjuring 3. Gravity 4. Stoker 5. This is the End 6. Dallas Buyers Club 7. 12 Years a Slave 8. Evil Dead 9. Catching Fire 10. You're Next I think American Hustle should win Best Picture, by far the best movie I've seen all year. I loved it so much
Still quite a few films on my "To see" list for 2013, such as Hors Satan, Beyond the Hills, Wolf of Wall Street, the Paradise trilogy, and plenty of others, so I usually don't make my "final" list until the end of January when I try to catch up on some missed films and a few of the buzzed about films on other lists and see if they bump out any of mine. But currently, my top 10 films from this past year that I had the chance to see are: 10. Blue is the Warmest Color (France/Belgium/Spain) 9. Sightseers (United Kingdom) 8. Drug War (China/Hong Kong) 7. Stoker (United Kingdom/United States) 6. Berberian Sound Studio (United Kingdom) 5. Pieta (South Korea) 4. Spring Breakers (United States) 3. No (Chile/United States/France/Mexico) 2. The Act of Killing (Denmark/United Kingdom/Norway/Finland) 1. The Hunt (Denmark/Sweden)
I don't know about anyone else but I find it impossible to do a proper, all encompassing "best of the year" list by December because I usually don't get around to seeing all of the films I'm interested in until more than half way through the following year. But, out of the ones I've seen, these are the ones I liked the best: Stoker (my personal favorite of the year) Resolution Antiviral Sightseers Lords Of Salem V/H/S/2 Spring Breakers Only God Forgives The World's End A Band Called Death Magic, Magic This Is The End Drinking Buddies Salinger
I saw 11 films made this year. I guess I can break them down into "liked' and "disliked": Liked Star Trek Into Darkness Man of Steel Thor: The Dark World Olympus Has Fallen Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Side Effects Disliked Evil Dead Iron Man 3 Curse of Chucky A Good Day to Die Hard
8. Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman Also, even though IMDB lists Machine Gun Woman as a 2012 movie, it didn't get released even in it's own country of Chile till May of 2013 so I'm counting it.[/QUOTE] Watched this last night on Netflix. It was a little too corny for me to enjoy. Mostly I didn't care for the lead actor. It's easy to say they could have done so many things better but it really felt that way.
