Anchor Bay has had two Region 1 stabs at Lucio Fulci's undead opus, ZOMBIE, and now Blue Underground and Shriek Show will have their hand in releasing DVDs for the film. There are a lot of discs out there, which one will make it in your collection?
i too have the bu version and the anchor bay collectors edition vhs and i will probably get the ss version too
Which One ? Well, I bought the 2nd Anchor Bay edition, the one that reads LUCIO FULCI COLLECTION ZOMBIE on the cover, in 2002. Last week I have bought the Blue Undergound Version, it has 6 audio options English (5.1, 2.0 & 1.0) and Italian (5.1, 2.0 & 1.0) but it loses the Audio Commentary and the 4-page booklet from the Anchor Bay previous edition, so I'm gonna keep both of them. Both versiones, have very few extras, the trailers are not interesting, the commentary is ok, and the BU Version has some nice collection of posters, pictures, lobby cards. Plus both editions have different posters on the covers, so it's nice to have them both. I'm also gonna buy the SS edition because of the extras, I hope they're worthy, and again the SS will have a third different cover, so it will be really nice to have them all. It's not like you have the same thing three times, there are differences.
I pre-ordered the SS version, but if the A/V doesn't measure up to BU's, I may end up having to get both.
Got the BU and I'm sticking with it. Don't see any point in owning both, but okay. Oh, this is also because I'm tired of SS and their pushbacks.
Going with the SS version. I really don't understand people being so impatient about this. Like many of you - I've waited for years to upgrade my Anchor Bay disc (their 1st Zombie release), kept tabs on Shriek Show's progress, became amused and intrigued when I found out about SS and BU releasing Zombie DVDs on the same day, and yet through all this and more - I don't mind waiting a little longer for SS's dvd. Am I missing something? Maybe I'm just not a big enough fan of the movie?
The SS does look enticing, and at $15, I might get it, but not for a couple months. I have the BU disc that my mom bought me to hold me off and there is plenty of other things I need to get first.
I've already bought the BU version and will definitely be getting the SS version as well... it looks beautiful from the photos I've seen.
I'm keeping my BU disk because I like the video quality better than the SS release (it's all subjective though). The SS transfer seems to be over-saturated resulting in a loss of detail and un-natural flesh tones (my opionion and personal preference only). Don't get me wrong though, the SS disc looks amazing. I love the packaging and the extras look awesome. I'm just not into that kinda thing (for this movie anyways).
I was going to get the SS version also but I thought about it and have decided against it. I like the packaging but all it will do is sit on the shelf and I agree the BU transfer looks a little better so I'll just stick with the BU one.
