Some Italian slashers are considered Giallo.Michele Soavi's Stagefright for example is a very typical 80's slasher (with great cinematography!) but is always listed as being a Giallo.
Slasher! I give lots of value to the music and most of the horror movies whose score/soundtrack I've listened to are slashers. Just a few are from gialli. Besides, I hate dubbing and the fact that old italian movies used to add the actors' voices after recording the movie (shooting).
I've voted for Slasher because, as I've stated in other threads, I don't really know anything about Giallo and have only seen one or two that fall into this catagory. I'm pretty "schooled" in Slasher so I guess that Giallo is my new frontier. Anyone know of a good guidebook on the subject? One with reviews, synopses, pics, etc? I'd like to broaden my horror/exploitation horizons.
I vote Slasher because they lend themselves to group viewing better and because of that get a lot more replay.
Slasher, definitely. I personally think Giallo is highly overrated, there are a few Giallo films I like but very few. Although I can appreciate the style in which most Giallo films are made they just don't hold my interest.
I never really got into Gillo really. But I suspect its because I haven't seen very many. Anyway, I went with slasher. Too many great slasher flicks to not vote it perferred genre of the two.
While there are some excellent slashers and some terrible gialli (the same of course could be said for any genres or sub-genres), but overall I selected gialli. Of course, Halloween to me is much better than The Killer Must Kill Again, but even mediocre Bava and Argento just slays (no pun intended) any Jason movie IMHO.
Slasher!!! Love some of the old "yellows" and God knows Argento and Fulci are incredible...but it can't approach my love for the slasher. :fire:
